Oh right. Good point. It would fit with where we think William is from though, so it is likely.

Thanks for that. It is good to have reaffirmed from others that I was on the right track with his wifes name.
Also that this is a name from County Down confirms my suspicions of their origins.
Thank you

Thank you.
I realise I have very little to go on myself, or to give others who would like to assist.
Unfortunately we do not know where or when he died either, although my assumption would be somewhere in NZ, which makes purchasing a copy of his death certificate quite difficult. I really only have a name to go on, so this was a bit of a shot in the dark.
A search of ancestry.com gave me a link to a one world tree with William and an Anna McHebben who had a dughter Mary Jane in NZ in 1876 which matches to the information I have, however they also only have a birth year and marriage year of 1875 with no location. I am unsure as to whether the marriage would have occured in Ireland

Down / William John McCutcheon

I was wondering if anyone could give me some assisance in researching the ancestry of William John McCutcheon born approx 1851. The only lead we have is that he is likely from County Down and married an Anna McKibbin or McHebben born 1859. They emigrated to New Zealand where my great grandfather Andrew James (b1887) and at least one other child (Mary Jane b1876) were born.
If anyone knows of William John and can confirm whether he was in fact from county down, or knows of any of his ancestors I would really appreciate a point in the right direction.

Thank you
Aimee

Hi Steve

Thanks for the encouragement. Dave has been very helpful, and it is wonderful to start discovering some of the stories out there. If it turns out we are related in some way i would love to hear about that too. Best of luck in your search.

I would really appreciate that. Thank you. No, I did not know they were cousins, I guess that just points out how little I have managed to uncover.

Hello. I am a New Zealand based Mordecai. Descended from Rhys Mordecai b1881 near Llantrisant parents Evan b1853 and Maria. As it is very difficult researching from New Zealand, I am very curious to contact anyone who may have knowledge of my ancestors, or also be their descendants.
Regards
Aimee
