Galway / CLACHERTY & EGAN ~ GALWAY
« on: Monday 25 October 10 13:43 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking to find our exactly where in Galway my Gt Gt Grandparents hailed from - Michael CLACHERTY born circa 1865 (son of Patrick Kelly & Agnes McNamara) and Delia EGAN born circa 1866 (daughter of John Egan & Bridget Kelly) both Galway.

They would have left Ireland sometime before 1894 as they were both married in St Patrick's Church, Dumbarton in that year.  From census records it does not appear that the families of either of them came to Scotland.

If anyone can offer and help or advice I would be most grateful.

Midlothian / Re: Deaths - Margaret & Roderick McDonald

Thanks for that, it at least explains why letter was returned.

We think that Maudie have ended up in a nursing home (strong possibility that she was suffering from dementia) as the solicitors were acting as Power of Attorney for her when the estate was given out.  I wonder where the files etc of solictors ended up?

Hmmmmmm!

Midlothian / Deaths - Margaret & Roderick McDonald
« on: Sunday 13 September 09 10:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I'm looking for the death of my Grandad's sister (and her husband) but I'm having no luck.

Margaret Johnston Murray Logan (also known as Maudie) born 7 March 1915 in South Leith married Roderick McDonald 14 July 1945.  They had no children.  In the early 60's Maudie lived in Pentland Drive in Edinburgh.

We believe that Roderick died mid to late 60's but we believe Maudie was alive certainly 1988/9 as she received a share of an estate via solicitors Ketchen & Stevens in Edinburgh.  I've contacted them for any info they may have held, however the letter I sent was returned as gone away.

I've searched on SP but can find no record of death for either of them.  Can anyone help....PLEASE?  Thank you in advance for any help or advice anyone can offer.

I keep saying I'll have a trip up to Edinburgh but have been saying that for 2 years and haven't managed it yet.  I've not heard of the Kirk Session Minutes...what are they?  It seems I still have an awful lot to learn when it comes to geneology!  :)

Hi Gadget - thanks for the info supplied.  The birth year for Archibald was supplied by a family member but I don't believe it's correct.

I've had some more info supplied this week from a descendent of Archibald with a marriage date for Archibald and Margaret but it just doesn't tally - 1779 when their first child was born 1774.  It just doesn't seem likely?

Alas I'm no further forward....we were in Coldingham a few weeks back and I took photos of any headstone with family name on but I didn't come across an Archibald Davidson anywhere.  The plot thickens!

Was Purves the Smith equivalent in Berwick in those days?  There's loads of Margaret Purves born around 1750.

Think I'm flogging a dead horse.  Without the marriage record there's no way I can see who her father was to go back any further.  Soooooo frustrating!
