Hi everyone,
Thanks for the replies especially the last one. Was this a gypsy couple I wonder? As names can so often be followed through the generations I thought the first 2 might be the same family-both Wells, the later Fammelo was definitely of a gypsy family.

The other one is at Tisbury Wilts 1809. Sometimes it appears as FENILO Wells. Yes I am fairly sure they are variations of the same name.

They were born before census- 1777 and 1809 in Dorset and Wiltshire.Neither appear on a census that I can find.

In tracing my gypsy ancestors I have come across the following
a daughter recorded in the parish record as FAMMELO Wells.
In the previous generation a daughter FAMMALOTHA Wells.
The parish records dont specify that these were traveller families, although I believe their descendents were.
Usually its possible to guess a name even if misspelt, but this has me beaten.
Has anyone got a clue?

May I ask if one of you could be kind enough to check on your Dorset wills list for my FRY ancestors? They lived in the villages of Iwerne Minster, Shillingstone,Tarrant Gunville, and thereabouts. I have located some will refs. for 17thC, but am sadly lacking for the 18thC, especially up to 1750 which is where my research is stuck.I do hope that fire hasn't taken the lot!
Any help gratefully received,
M

Hi Tiggi,
Thanks again for your help. We have a family Jefferis, based in Fordingbridge. Jesse James Jefferis married Emily Wells. Is there any connection here?

Thankyou Tiggi for that. You have identified the correct family on the 1861 census. I think the census taker might have 'taken drink' that night. Henry Wells jnr. was not born in Penzance, but near Bath.We found his army record later which gave his place of birth as Walkate-which might be Walcot. He has sisters, Priscilla and Emily, mother Keziah, not Ann.
I have visited Dorset recently, but still cant find any record for Henry snr. born in Blandford. I think he was probably the son of George Wells and Elizabeth Smith, but alas I can't prove it. I also looked for a Martha Wells but drew a blank there too.

Hi,
You seem to have got it mostly right 'Dorset Daisy'. Of the 3 sons of Thomas and Eliz. only Edward went with Thomas and his 2nd wife ,Leah , to Fawley in Hampshire.
There is more info. on my Fry/Wells tree on Ancestry for anyone who is interested, or send me a message.
John Fry is my gr.gr. gfr.
Are you related to this family 'Dorset Daisy'?
M.
