Ayrshire / Re: George McIntosh and Isabella Williams - Caprington Castle

Hello again,

I have Helen Christie's (McIntosh) brother, Henry in Australia.  Helen came here probably because of him and she was widowed with children.  I'm trying to follow what Henry did and where he went.  So far I've got him married to Fanny Mardon in 1854 then Henry having a boating accident at age 30 or so and both of them buried in Ballarat.

I think their descendants are in Victoria,  Isabella, 1855 - 1939....I have nothing on her apart from being buried in Ballarat.

Henry Shephard, who married Caroline Sparkman, then having one child, Harry Athol who died in WW1, then Charles Pedlar who produced a family.

Which line are you from?

Cheers,

Maggie

That would be really great if you have some info.  You will have read all the previous stuff that I've put up.  Lovely to meet you.  I'm investigating the line through their daughter Helen who married Robert Christie.  Their daughter, Isabella married a Moncrieff in Australia.

Thank you for the update.  I can't see the marriage certificate that you mention.

Thank you for the work you're doing.  I'm going to have to take a bit of time to fit it all together.  There's a lot of history sitting there in the information that you've given.

I don't know where to begin with all of you helping with so much information.  Thank you all.

Br1gau - I can see that I may have to get into Scotlands People to get the OPR and especially the death certificate

No I didn't have the info re George (born 1827) moving to Dundee etc.  This is a brand new area for me here.  I saw he was an Engineer's Clerk.  That's a jump going over there unless he was involved in the fishing.  On the other hand, George, the father together with Isabella, moved over the country to employment at Caprington.  I was wondering if he (George senior) was already employed at Prestonfield in Edinburgh.  I've discovered a connection between Prestonfield and Caprington re the Cunninghames who seemed to have their feet in both houses so maybe they just 'brought staff over' or something.

Re the emigration of Helen, Henry, Isabella and William.....Now that we know where George is, I wonder where the other brother, Robert Christie, got to.  He may have gone to Dundee as well since he was an Engineer's iron turner.

Rosie17......Thank you for your digging as well.  Isabelle's mother being a Wilson has opened another can for me as my maiden name was Wilson.  My dad was born in that area as well.

"Is this Isabella McIntosh in the 1881 census Civil Parish Paisley Abbey Johstone Renfrewshire
Isabella McIntosh b 1807 Haddn, Haddington age 74 housewife
Ellen McIntosh b 1869 Stevenson Ayrshire age 12 scholar granddaughter
"

This one is food for thought.  Thank you for this.

Re the 1871 Census with the McKintocks (Mcintosh)....I don't know if this is connected .  This would mean that the Alexander mentioned is Isabella's son.  The age is right, together with Isabella etc but the name isn't but I'm not discounting it.

jonn - You are swaying me re the above Alexander.  He has to be connected especially with Isabella being nearby.  Thank you as well.

I'm wondering also who the original George's parents were.

I'm taking a while to absorb all this information.  It's a never ending thing isn't it?

Cheers from Australia,

Maggie

I'm looking for George McIntosh, born about 1799 in Edinburgh and his wife, Isabella Williams, born 16 September 1806 in Haddington.  They are recorded living at Caprington Castle, near Riccarton, in the 1841 and the 1851 census.  I have no further information on either their parents or their marriage or deaths.

They had children, George b 1827, Henry b 1829, Jane 1831 and Helen b 24 February 1833.

Does anyone have any information that may help?  Many thanks if you have.

Thank you so much for this.  I've found them on the census after previously searching in Banff instead of Rathven.

I'll keep the search going though.

Banffshire / A Different Geddes Family

I have a William Geddes, born abt 1853, who married Janet (Jessie) Sutherland.  Their children were

Catherine Ann       b 1883, went to Australia, married and had no children
Peter                     b 1883  nothing known about him
Jessie                    b 1893 went to Australia, married and had one child
Alexander                 went to Australia, married and had no children
George                     married Jeannie Bowie and ????
Jeanie                      married William Jappie and had two ?children
Mary                       b abt 1901, married Arthur Smith, had two children
William                    married and lived in Glasgow, had a son, Bill
James                    died as a child
Grace                     died as a child

I'd like to track the present remaining families if possible but also to find the previous generations of the Geddes family

I have William's parents as Peter (Foskie) Geddes, and Mary Slater (Sclater).  Their other children were

Jane                       b 1846
Mary                       b 1849
Alexander               b Aug 1850
Janet                      b 1859

I'm hoping I'm on the right track with these.  Any clues at all would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Hello,

I have a Christina Third Findlay (also known as Chrissie), daughter of George Findlay, Marine Engineer and Elizabgeth Gibb.  She was born 8 January 1901.  Her address in 1923 was Ivy Cottage, Longhaven.  I'm trying to find the ancestry and census etc of this family.  Were there any siblings etc?  I have no idea where the name 'Third' came from.  It seems to be some family name.  She married my mother's brother in 1923, Alexander Thomas Milton of Buckie, then they emigrated to Canada.

If anyone has any information I'd really be so pleased.  Many thanks.

Margaret
