The Lighter Side / Re: Mary Ann Cotton 1839-1873 Durham
« on: Tuesday 22 December 09 03:39 GMT (UK)  »
not sure if anyone else has come accross it.
Mary ann cottons daughter born just before her execution  to quick manning is on freebmd
MARGARET EDITH QUICK MANNING (as christian name ) COTTON (as surname)
births march 1873 durham 10a 435
I cannot find her marriage under same name nor death.
Mary ann cotton had a brother about 3 yrs younger than her named Robert i believe . Marys father fell down pit shaft at Murton colliery and was killed when she was about 8 so a check on 1841 census might help, her father was Michael Robson
some of this i got from wikipedia, i checked it with other sources and most of it is correct.
As far as who adopted Margaret edith, i have no idea. i've tried looking for her on 1881 census with mary anns brother but no luck, mary anns step father was called george stott but she despised him so can't see him having her either as his wife was long dead.will let someone else3 look for her but i did however find an interesting article in sunderlandd echo, a local newspaper for the area mary ann came from

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: 1851 census look up please

Hi Barbara, I found loads of info and bmd records on' Lancashire online parish clark project' more than was on igi, it even gave their occupations on some.
There are still 3 of Margarets' siblings that I cannot find marriages for, or on 1881 census.
They are Robert Baldwin,Thomas Baldwin and Elizabeth.
I came across a possible death for Robert in ' Lancashire bmd 'in 1857. ref LAT/4/15

If you could possibly help me find them, I would be excstatic.

 Thanks again

;D Oh, Barbara, What can I say !!!!
From the info you have given me I've found the marriages of Margaret's siblings , traced them on 1881 census and got back another 2 generations on igi  ;)

Thanks so much Barbara, ;)
Her Father was born in Rufford.
That's ironed out a family rumour. My grandparents always said she was a cousin of Stanley Baldwin the Prime Minister, lol, so many family myths have been blown apart since I started looking them up.
Dare I ask if you have them in 1861, just to see if she had anymore siblings.

Thanks again Barbara, you are a star

Castle Eden is in County Durham,it  is adjoined to  Hesledon and Wingate. It is approx 3 miles south of  Peterlee and 3 miles west of Blackhall. If you have map book you can find it just off the A19.  Villages nearby also include Hutton Henry and Wheatley Hill. It is a farming area and prior to the year 2000 it employed a great may staff at its brewery ' Whitbread' ( now demolished)
