I'm looking for information about the Norman family living in Colchester in the 1790's and before.  I have traced the family back to William Norman born abt 1796 in Colchester but i have not been able to find his wife or his parents.  All i know is that William had the following children Alfred, Isabella, James and Susanah.  Thanks

Paul Street was/is small terraced housing for the working class. The more wealthy would have lived in Forest Gate.

Thanks, do you know if there are any pictures of Paul Street (new or old) on the internet anywhere?

Does anyone have any information about Paul Street, West Ham during the 1800's.  I've looked on Multimap.co.uk and i can see that Paul Street still exists but i don't know what sort of housing it is or whether it would have been a poor area during the 1800's.  Any help gratefully appreciated! thanks

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: Oakley Parish registers look up please

If you wouldn't mind having a look around St Leonards that would be brilliant! Yes i would love a photo of any relevant headstones.  I live in East Anglia so it's not very easy to get to Oakley!

I seem to have reached a dead end with James Want - do you think the only thing i could try would be actually looking in the Parish Registers at the records office?  Is there any way this can be done from afar or would it be a case of hiring an agent to look?   It's possible James Want could have been born anywhere around Oakley - all i know is that he married there in 1816 but i suppose Oakley could have been his wife's parish of residence.

As i am stuck on James Want i started to research his wife's family (Fanny Harfield)  I found Fanny on the IGI as being born 1795 in Oakley and her parents were William Harfield and Hannah Jones.  I haven't been able to get any further back than that - is there anywhere else i could try looking? thanks for all your help - it's great!!

Family History Beginners Board / Want family living in Oakley pre 1816

Hi I'm new around here and wondered if anyone could help me out with my research on the Want family of Hampshire? I've found a James Want who married a Fanny Harfield on March 14 1816 but i have not been able to get any further back on the Want side.  The IGI does not seem to list James Want.  Is anyone else out there looking for the same family? Thanks

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Oakley Parish registers look up please

I would be very grateful if someone could look up James Want in the Oakley Parish Register of births.  I believe he was probably born around 1790.  All i know is that James Want married Fanny Harfield 14 March 1816 in Oakley.  I have found the family i the 1840 census but have not been able to find any record of James' Want's birth (and his parents names). Thanks
