Hey that's great.

Have you seen the same issues as me with the Thomas or Joseph Dunbar name?

Which part of the family are you connected to?

Hi,

Thanks for getting in touch.

Mary Ann Dunbar was born 17 Jul 1878 in Shoreditch.

Selina's marriage to Thomas was on 13 Feb 1873 in Shoreditch, I have the certificate.
Thomas appears as a Joseph in other documents & census's that I have which is odd.
I did find Selina on the 1871 census before she married, living in Hackney. Her mother also a Selina also appeared on this census.

Not sure the one you have is for the same family.

Hertfordshire / Union House
« on: Saturday 03 June 06 11:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Can any body tell me what Union House was in Layston, Hertfordshire in 1851. I have a possible relative living here, there are lots of other people living here, so it must be some kind of communial home.

My possible relative appears to be with others in the family, but it does not really that clear. He is listed as son, there is other siblings & a wife & a man with no title poss his father.

I would love to know what this Union House was so I can wonder how he came to be there.
Many thanks for anyones help.  :D

The plot thickens then! Encouraging to find a May Selina though.

I am logged on at work, so not able to do too much or look at my database.

If you would like to exchange direct emails let me know.

Hi Bill

No, I couldn't find any May Selina, Selina May or even Mae. I did find a Celina but I don't think the date matched.

I have access to Ancestory so if you need anything checking let me know.

I keen to help, as this could be another link into my Burleighs, the places seem so similar. A lot of mine emigrated to Aus in the 1850's, work in Monmouthshire, Glous dried up & some moved to London others abroad, perhaps this could be an avenue for you to look at.

Billy

Seems a mystery & I do not have anything that can help shed any light.

I have seen a birth for an Edward Burley

Edward Burley Sep 1847 - St Luke London - Vol 2 Page 254

Edward Burley Mar 1849 - Lambeth - Vol 4 page 356

Edward Burley Mar 1845 - Chepstow, Gloustershire, Monmouth - Vol26 Page6

Didn't think these really matched (although my Burleighs are the Chepstow lot, there is possibly a link somewhere, but I am still to find a Burleigh)

Then found the Edward you refer to on the 1861 census, birth Cheltenham, Glous, Mother Sarah, brothers John E & William H. Spelt BURLEIGH. All living in Paddington. Edward aged 15, his occupation a railway porter.

Think I have then found this same Edward on the 1871, this time with a sister Christina, who must have been away on the 1861. No William on this one, but John is & Sarah with 2 visitors. Edward is an unemployed Porter.

Not sure if this is really any good or will just confuse matters.

Hi Billy

Hmm....I have been looking about.
I have some credits on 1837 so have been looking for a birth for May - there was nothing in 1877, I checked from 1874-1879 & I found one May

1876 2nd Qtr May Edith Burley = Pancras 1b 30

I will keep looking to see if I can help you more.

Have you tried the spelling Mae instead of May. Although her father was deceased did it give an occupation?
Who were the witnesses to the marriage - any Burleigh/ley's?

Speak soon s
