Norfolk / Re: Lucy Fox

Hi Suz and Genie.

My Lucy was born in the district of Holbeach, Lincolnshire. To be exact she wass born at 5.30 a.m. on 30th October 1892 in the village of Sutton St James. On the birth certificate her father is shown as Watson Bowers a farm labourer.
Lucy Bowers then became Lucy Maycock when she married William in 1916 at Huntingdon, and after his death inj 1940 she married a Arthur Fox in Downham during 1948.
Lucy did have a twin brother, Fred, and came from a large family.  What I wonder now is were there any children from her marriage with either of these gentlemen ?

Thanks Keyboard thats a great help.  This site is quite fantastic for tracing lost family members !
With regard to her first marraige, Genie, I had already got that on my family tree.  I then lost trace of them after the marriage and only recently discovered that William Maycock died in Huntingdon during 1940.  Thanks everone

Hi Genie and Suz, thanks for your rapid response.  I don't know who she married, but I have now found out the ref which is Oct/Nov/Dec Downham 4b 859, so I shall be able to get a copy of the marriage certificate.  This was a second marriage, her first husband William Maycock died in Huntingdon, 1940.

I am  trying to find information on Lucy Fox who moved to Downham when she married in 1948. IO do not have any other information apart from her death in 1969 when she was aged 77.

Australia / Re: CLIFTON in South Australia

Hi Dawn
Been having trouble with my computor and this is the 3rd attempt at making a reply to your last message. No I don't live in Australia, but in North East Lincolnshire.  Until about 40 years ago I lived close to Gedney where our ancestors originated. I don't have the number of Clifton's on my tree that you have, but  I have traced 60 or 70. However, I have discovered a bridge near to Gedney, on one of the back roads in the fens, which is named Cliftons Bridge.  Have you any info on the book which was published re the Cliftons.  The Cliftons in Lincolnshire appear to have been farmers originally.   Regards.

Hi Dawn 55
Thanks for the info on the Clifton family who went to South Australia.
I am a descendant of the Joseph Clifton who died in Gedney Lincolnshire in 1846. He was my Grt/Grt/Grt/Grandfather.    I have managed to trace my tree back to 1668 up to the father of Joseph who was Thomas Clifton married to Anne (unknown).
All the Clifton family from 1668 up to the 1920's seem to have lived within 20 miles of Gedney so you can see that the area is flooded with relations.
Are you from South Australia ?  An aquaintance of mine who comes freom Adelaide and plays Grade A cricket for Southern Districts (Stingrays) tells me that the surname Clifton appears in his clubs records. It would be strange if it was one of my off shoots.
Do you know what happened to George Clifton after he arrived in Australia in 1855 ?

Hi Bedfordshire Boy.
Its not as simple as that. My parent was born several years before William and Lucy were  married, and was brought up by another family. Although I have been able to trace Williqam and Lucy until after the first World War I have found nothing since. From the latest post today I was hoping there may be a connection to the Maycock emergng in Australia.

Hi there.
Re my previous post I have still not found any trace of my William Maycock  (my grand parent) who married Lucy in 1916 at Ramsey in Huntingdonshire.  William came from a large family while Lucy had a twin brother, Fred.  I know William served in the first world war and was discharged from the Northamptonshire Regiment in 1918. After this date he and Lucy appear to have vanished.

Rebecca Ann Suley was my grt Grandmother. I only have her line back as far as her parents David Suley and Mary Courts.  My grandmother was Ethel Dickerson, while my father carried the name Suley as his second Christian name.
