I think this lady was trying to hide a lot.  I did think of trying to go through the Llanelli census to look for any Margarets of the right age and trying to work from there but I think that is an impossible task.
I found her daughter Irene's grandchildren but all they could tell me was what Irene told them about her mothers family coming from Llanelli to visit.  I also tried to work on various family names.  Irene's siblings all have family names  ie William James (William being his fathers name) Thomas Charles (being his Grandfathers name and his fathers other name) Frances Mary (being her father's mothers name).  So where did Irene come from.  There are only 4 in the 1881 census so not an usual name. I wondered if Margaret's mother had been called Irene but could not find one of the right age.  You grab at any straw that may lead somewhere.

Thank you very much for your reply.  I have checked everything I can to try and find Margaret under another name, no christening in Llanelli that I can find.  Its so frustrating.  I agree probably born out of wedlock but as Frederick was a post chaise driver he could easily be going to Llanelli.  Cant find any female Lovells in Llanelli who could be her mother but her family did live there according to her great grandchildren.

William and Alfred Lovell were the sons of John Lovell and Anne Jones Lovell I have their marriage cert.  John was the son of Major Lovell and (Ros)Hanna Twig Romanies who settled in Carmarthen Town in the 1840s.  If you look on Roots Web.com ....Briers Family Tree my family are all on it.  I was told the Landons in North Carmarthen were gypsy/gypsy like by the Vicar of St Dogmaels.

Best Wishes

The witnesses to the marriage in St Pauls Llanelli were Thomas Mathias and Hannah Howell - not much help.  They gave the same address Cambrian Place Llanelli.  I always thought the Edinburgh entry was wrong because they have her daughter Irene's name wrong as well so I put it down to sloppy census taker.  All other censuses give her place of birth as Llanelli and her daughters grandchildren said that her people came to visit from Llanelli but there were a lot of gypsies in Llanelli at that time.  I think her age on the cert is wrong too because the later censuses and death cert make her born 1850 yet her marriage in 1868 gives 22 same age as spouse when in fact I think she was 18.  I have checked the Lovell family tree in greater detail but found nothing.  Will check the roots chat site now.

Thankyou for your reply

Carmarthenshire / Margaret Lan(g)don b Llanelli c1850
« on: Monday 23 July 07 10:28 BST (UK)  »
Margaret gives Frederick Lan(g)don as her father on her marriage certificate.  Frederick lived in Llandeilo with his first wife and Llandovery with his second and had a total of 14 children all christened none named Margaret.
Does anyone know how she was related to him.  Her family were butchers in Llanelli according to family.  She was also supposed to be very closely related to the Lovell family of Carmarthen.. William Lovell b 1880 butcher and cattle dealer was believed to be first cousin to Margaret's son William Baker my grandfather.  The family think there is Romany blood in our veins and we are very Spanish/Romany in looks.
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.  I have been working on this for 4 years and the only way it will be solved is by contacting a member of her family.  My aunt who is 98 would love to know so I am hoping I can find the information for her whilst she is still with us.
On Margarets marriage cert Langdon is spelt thus but Frederick's name is Landon.
Thanks
