Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Re: Lookup, missing family
« on: Wednesday 09 November 05 19:44 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you Catone!

I was still after the record,  it is the only other record I have that has Jeremiah listed.

until the 1871.... thanks, he died before the 1881, aged 37.

I see you have David with a rail. question mark after his name, I think it meant that he was mining the tunnels for the railway.

I just have to find Jeremiah on the 1861, and I will have a full set.....but being a miner he could have been anywhere.... thanks again.

Janan,

I have managed to get the the 1841 census for the May family, cannot say if Simon May is a relative, maybe another branch, there were a lot of them in Wiltshire back in the 1800s.

Hello ALI,

I have been away on holiday, and came back to two letters regading the Mays.

Thank you for the information regarding the May family, it is the right one, and thanks for the address on the 1861 census.

I will have to go back to rootschat and do some deleting I think thanks again

Kris,

Many thanks for looking up the London census for 1871.

Finding Jeremiah, is the biggest bonus!      I was still not sure  if I had the right family!  but seeing that Jeremiah was born in Corshamside, I realise now that it is the right one!

We had wondered about the age of Mary (daughter) being born two years before the marriage.   ;D

with gratitude

Kris,

Sorry I did not get back to you earlier, to say thank you, but I forgot I had asked the question of the group, and only got a notification today from Rootschat,  ? that you had replied to it  :(

That is the family Kris,

Eleanor was Davids mother, and William, John and Samuel were the names of his brothers.  The other brothers were Alfred and George.
He also had four sisters!

Wow thats great!
At least now I know that they had gone by 1851!

I would like the information you have found so I can fill in the blanks.

Now the problem really starts, where did they go after Jeremiah was born? before they turn up in London 30 years later.  Oh well that will keep me busy for 2005. ;D

Happy new year to all the group

The family name is MAY.......can someone please be kind enough to look up to see if they can find the family for me please.    1861, and 1851.

David May  (Corsham Wiltshire)
Mary (wife) (Corsham, Wiltshire)
children..

Ann     (1837)     ( Corsham, Wiltshire)
John     (1839)                   "
Jeremiah    (1841)              "

Samuel  (about (1853) born in Sutterton, Lincolnshire)

The family originated in Wiltshire, the first three children were born in Corsham Wiltshire.....by 1851 they had gone totally off the radar,...and I only find them again in London in 1871 when David had remarried and had two other younger children.

David and Jeremiah were 'miners', but cannot understand why they were in Lincolnshire when Samuel was born.  That is the only way I  know they were moving around???

A mystery to be solved.

Thank You

Lindy

Thank you so much Sue,

Mmmm, yes now the search goes on!

Thank you Sylviaan,

As this searching is all still new to me, I have no idea what is what with census, I have seen some indexes from 1851 in our local library, but they only cover the sounding area by five miles,  and are indexed with both names. I still have a lot to learn and at each turn of the wheel I find out something new.  ;D  (thought at my age I knew it all) ::)

Anyway thanks again for looking, and the info on the families you found.

regards

Caroline married in1873, she stated she was born in St George in the East........father John. (Gunsmith)

on the census of 1881 she was already widowed,  her age was 33....so calculating we thought she was born in 1848...

I checked all the Caroline Lanes born in the years 1847 through 1849.....in that general area, found one in Poplar...
I sent for the birth cert but is was the wrong one......

Now today I checked again and found one born earlier in 1846 St George East......seems to be the only one!

Not sure now if it is the right one...I have seen the census and understand how big they are for London.

Is this of any more help?

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Lookup records for St George in the East
« on: Saturday 09 October 04 11:18 BST (UK)  »

Hi everyone,

I am looking for someone who maybe can look up for me in the census or even indexes for St George in the East? 1851/1861/ or even 1871.

Does anyone have such a thing?

The family I am looking for is called LANE......

Father: JOHN, noted to be a Gunsmith, on Caroline's marriage certificate......

Mother unknown as yet

daughter Caroline..........
siblings unknown.

I just received a certificate for a Caroline, but found out it is the wrong one...so thought maybe I could confirm the family before I send for another one.

;D

Thankyou

Lindy
