Lancashire Lookup Requests / Smith birth needed preston/manchester area
« on: Saturday 14 March 09 18:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi....I am trying to find a birth for my husbands birth mother Doris Smith.
We know that she married Paul skiba in 1948 in preston. Her mother was also Smith as at the time of the birth she was unmarried and around 14 years old . We think that the mother went into a workhouse for the birth which would have been in the Preston or Manchester area's. We think Doris would have been born around 1928.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.....Thanks.

Hi.....
Pauline, no i don't have the marriage cert...found the marriage on familysearch.
Loads of info attached on the barlow side but not on skinners.

Carol.....sorry hadn'y got more to go on....very elusive family...most of it anyway....occupation of thomas confused me a bit . I was lead to believe they were all coal miners like the barlow side seems to be.....thankyou so much for all your help !!!! That's fantastic..x

sorry to confuse anyone... I did put this question on the general board and was advised to put it onto this one.....my question was that I needed help with territorial records, as in what regiments do I look at, and why would the stamps be on a birth cert.  I now know why the stamps are there...and am hoping for help with the rest.....sorry again

World War One / territorial force info
« on: Sunday 16 November 08 15:40 GMT (UK)  »
hello......I need some help with the territorial force.
My grandmothers birth cert has two territorial force association stamps on the back.  They are not very clear as the stamps are on top of each other, both are for the county of essex. One says'received may 1916' and the other 'received sep 1918'. He was living in the dovercourt area at the time.
g.grandfathers name was George A.B. WOOLLARD. initials stand for albert burch, as he was originally registered burch but married in name of woollard ( long story).
