Thanks Carol,

I think this is possibly it! Benjamin Reardon's second marriage was 26th Oct 1963. Will check out the 1911 to see if I can find Timothy & Frances Amelia.

Also, my hubby's brother said the place name Abertile rang a bell somewhere - Abertillery, is close.
Thanks Again

Hi,

I have on update which hopefully may give more details to aid my search:

Marriage certificate reveals:

Benjamin Reardon aged 58 - Widower, address - The Ramblers, Buxted - Father's name - Timothy Reardon (deceased - Miner)

The wife's details are correct, because she is still living and the witnesses are her family, all of which are known about.

I have also found out that the Reardon Family were from the Rhondda Valley Area of Wales.

Any help with the missing birth record or 1911 census record to give more information about mother & siblings would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi,

Thanks for messages. His first marriage was to Doris M Tourle and I have searched and found his two children from this marriage. I have created a tree on Ancestry in the last day, so I am hoping that some line of the family may contact me and the hope is I can get new information this way as well.

The spouse in his second marriage, also in Uckfield, is still alive so this is certainly my Benjamin Reardon. Unfortunately, this spouse will not talk about him, even as the father of her five children! Unfortunately, all they know is his name and the fact that he was in his 60's when his children were born! She will not even give date or place or birth, let alone family details such as parents names or siblings etc.

It is such a shame, as all five children have grown up and having tell them my family history from years of searching, are keen to know even their basic history. Hence my search.

I awaiting the arrival of this second marriage certificate, so hopefully that should give me more information.

Thanks, again,

Hi,

Thanks for messages.

He married in Sussex twice. His first marriage when he was aged 27 then he remarried after being a widower 59 to an 18 year old! He then went on to have five more children with her so I don't think he was trying to hide his age - if anything he was too old for an 18 year old and should of changed his DOB to a later date!

This is a complicated family history - who's isn't though, and I am trying to trace this line as the family will not say anything to his decendents about him at all which means I have nothing to go on.

I am awaiting the marriage cert for his second marriage to see if that will help me further.

Thanks,

Wales / Missing Reardon Birth record Oct 1904 in Wales
« on: Thursday 18 August 11 10:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am struggling to locate a birth record for a Benjamin Reardon born 7th October 1904 in Wales.
These birth date & place details are submitted on his death certificate - unfortunately, all it states is Wales, no area or Town!
He died in Sussex in Jan 1973.

I have been trying alternative spellings etc and searched the birth indexes but have still not located anything other than a birth of a Benjamin Reardon Sept in 1909 - some five years difference in birth's!

I have no further details such as parents name etc to go on.

Hopefully someone will be able to help.

Many Thanks,
Yellowduckbook

Hi,

I found that census record too as I searched by address in 1901. Possibe uncle as Chas maybe her dad's brother as similar age, but not been able to link together.

When Gertrude married John William in July 1901, she was 7 months pregnant with her first child, so may explain the secrecy, giving other addresses on marriage cert etc. The Brannan family were all catholics too and three lines of Brannans married at Catholic churches except John William!
Thanks

Hi,

William James Bull's occupation on both Gertrude's birth & marriage cert's is a Tube Drawer.

Gertrude married John William Brannan in July 1901 at St Joseph's Parish Church, Birmingham by Banns.

Address at time of marriage in 1901 was 6/4 Great Colmore St, Birmingham. Thanks
