Antrim Completed Look up Requests / Re: Raloo Presbyterian Church records

You might find some information at www.origins.net. There are many records there for 'James Moore' - this site has a minimal cost and has been invaluable in my research.  Also, Proni now has the Valuation Revision Books online showing all the land records - this one is free.  Also the Ulster Historical Society has all the gravestone inscriptions online at www.ancestryireland.com.  If you become a member, you can see this information for free.  I have found this site very useful as you can contact them with questions as well.  They also have other information online.

Hope this helps,
Pat

Thanks Elwyn.  I have all the records from the early times 1700 and 1800 from the 1st Presbyterian and Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Churches, transcribed by a great family historian in Larne, Leonard Sluman.  As many of the records are missing (thanks to the -troubles- :)), I wondered if there were any other churches in the area they may have attended.  I appreciated your information regarding the fact it is almost impossible to determine which church they attended unless you had a record.  I found one record of a marriage in 1868 at the Reformed Loughmorne Presbyterian Church but no other records were there - I believe the church is not old enough for the earlier records.  With all the differences between Presbyterian, Non-Subscribing and Reformed, I wondered where their religious travels took them.  Thanks again,

Pat

Antrim / Old Larne and Kilwaughter Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church

Hi,
Can anyone out there tell me what the townland boundaries were for these two Presbyterian Churches in the early 1700s?  The records are showing names from Larne (Town), Browndod, Ballyrickard, and Carnduff, but I have looked these townlands up on the old map and they would have been a bit of a distance apart in those days.

Thanks.
Pat

« on: Monday 11 June 12 19:00 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone out there confirm that William Snoddy and Matthew Snoddy possessed a tenement, a block of houseing in Inbroath, Scotland in 1538.  William and Matthew moved to Ulster and settled in an area named BallySnod and Carnduff, Larne, Co. Antrim?
Thanks.

Hi Morag,

Thanks so much for your information on the Andison's.  William and Jane Andison are my 4x great grandparents. Your ancestor, Henry is the brother to my ancestor Robert, both sons of William and Jane.  I was thrilled to receive the Gravestone inscription.  Do you know if there is a picture of their tombstone anywhere?  I found a picture of the graveyard on 'google images'.

Andison has always been the surname in our family too.  I have researched the origin of the name and they state it is a derivative of 'Anderson', however, my Andison aunt seemed to think it was of Danish origin.  Do you know anything about the origins of the surname?

I also found your last name interesting as "Carter" is also in our famly through Henry Andison's  (b. 1878) wife's family.  However, this name comes from Suffolk and I imagine there were alot of Carter's in the UK :)

My email address is *  I would love to correspond too Morag.  Interestingly, you have Robert Andison in your 1861 census, as his wife died in Cumberland in 1855 and I could not find him in the Census of England for this year.  He did go back to Cumberland and life with his daughter Mary and husband John Young who was a farmer.

Will chat more by email.

Warmest Regards, Pat

Robert and MargaretAndison  left Scotland circa 1840 with their children: Jane, Margaret, Mary, William and Henry and settled in Plumbland, Cumbria, England.

I am seeking information relating to ancestors and descendants of the above.

Here are the children of the above:

William Andison and Janet (Jean) Graham (William's name is spelled "Anderson" in the original record - this change of spelling through the decades depended upon the clerk writing the information and his knowledge of Surname spellings as most of the farmer- parishioners may not have been able to read or write).

2.  Henry b. 1762
3.  John b. 1766
4.  Margaret b. 1770

1.  William 1788
2. Robert 1793
3.  Elspeth 1796

Dublin / Re: James Johnstone of Dublin 1799-1855
« on: Saturday 23 July 11 18:03 BST (UK)  »
Sorry Shane,

My Johnstone's appeared to live in Dublin City itself by the castle.  I don't know where they were from prior to living there so they may have come from Blackrock...unknown at this point, but thanks for taking the time to respond.
