Gloucestershire / Re: Suter/Beard Family

Hi

I don't know if it's just a coincidence, but I have an 8th great grandfather called William Beard, b 1656 in Rottingdean, Sussex, who marries a Frances Suter, b 1660 in Rottingdean. I can't find much out at all about the Suter family in Sussex. I have my suspicions that there is a link with the Beard's of Sussex and those of Gloucestershire, but as I can trace mine back in Sussex to 1495, I think it would have been at least that far back.

Frances Suter does marry a Nevell/Neville and move to Chester, although this is obviously near to North Wales. But there could be a connection there somewhere. I know that all the Sussex families I mention had links with the iron industry, as does Gloucestershire in previous centuries, there were also iron connections with Wales. So maybe there are Suter links going way back too.
Don't know if any of this is anymore than just interesting, but you never know what may be of help!

Good luck with the search.

Hi

I am related to the Beard family of Brighton and Rottingdean, Sussex. My 14x GG was Richard Beard b 1492 and he married Elizabeth. I don't seem to be able to go any further back, but then that's not too surprising.

In trying to search for relations to Richard b 1492 I came across a Gyles Beard buried in 1611 in Rowner in Hampshire. Whilst trying to trace when he was born, I came across a Gyles Beard b 1582 in Painswick, Gloucester, he married a Margaret Okey on 22 Nov 1607 - I'm not sure if they are the same person?

I'm not sure how far back you are going? I'd be very interested to know of any Beard's that are around the 15th and 16th century if you have any.

The furthest I can find is a John Beard in 1402 in Lincoln. My theory is that they may all be related originally?!?

The Beard's of Sussex became Quakers in 1666, and there seems to be a tradition of Beard's going into the church, or as Quakers, and the name crops up across the pond too - I wonder if through their ministrys that they kept in touch across the country.

Any thoughts, or possible links to Gloucestershire, or anywhere else, would be greatfully appreciated.

Hi

All the Census records for Eleanor from 1841 to 1891 say that she was born on the Isle of Man, probably in Lonan, but I do not have a record for her birth. However, if you search for all Eleanor's born on the Isle of Man within 5 years of 1814 on the Family Search website there are quite a few in Lonan. I am not sure which one she would be at the moment, but I'll let you know if I dig anything up.

Hi

If anyone is still interested, I have info on Daniel Kermode 1836 Isle of Man. He married a Martha Quirk, also of IOM, they moved to the USA. Daniel died in 1900 in Cleveland, Ohio, and Martha in 1885 in St Louis, Missouri. They had the following children:
James - 1863
Clara - 1866 in Lancashire, England, d USA
Martha - 1868 Lancs, d 1944 St Louis, USA
Elizabeth - 1872
Emeline Mildred - 1877 Cleveland, Ohio
Annie - 1881 Cleveland
Daisey - 1882 Cleveland

Daniel's parents were Daniel Kermode 1793, and Eleanor. Daniel had a sister Hannah Kermode, b 1844 in Lonan, IOM, she married my 1st cousin 5x removed Henry Bateman. Daniel Kermode snr was also married to a Margaret Killip, b 1803 IOM. They had a daughter called Anne Kermode who married a Joseph Raisbeck, b1823, they moved to Victoria, Australia. The Killip family were extensive on the Isle of Man, and also in Liverpool (then in Lancashire).
