So the burials look like those of father and son. I had presumed as much with the unusual name.

Thank you so much all for your very fast and helpful responses !

Thank you, I have him in 1851 census and also his death in 1855.

Unfortunately, I am now at a dead end without any trace of his baptism, parents or siblings...

Thanks again for your help !

Durham Lookup Requests / Anthony Johnson, South Shields look up please
« on: Tuesday 17 April 12 13:54 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Can anyone help ?
I have Anthony Johnson marriage to Ann Gatis 17 Oct 1785 in Jarrow, and his death
in 1828 in South Shields (approx age 82), both records found on familysearch.org. (no trace on Ancestry).
I have hit a wall and would be grateful for any help with possible baptism/christening records for Anthony Johnson or Ann Gatis (possibly Gates) in Jarrow or possibly St.Hilda circa 1740/1760 ?

Many thanks,
angiek.

Hello Westoe,

I did receive your message and my sincere apologies for not responding sooner.
Thank you very much for all the information. Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to
look at it in detail yet but hopefully will get to it in the next few days.

Thanks again,
Angie.

Ross & Cromarty / Re: Mclennans of Killearnan

Hi Bruce,

Thank you so much for the information, it makes fascinating reading.

Donald's sister Christian Mclennan is my 3 x great grandmother. Although there
appears to be a lot of information online on the Mclennan clan, I have had difficulty
finding information specifically about Christian's siblings and her parents Colin Mclennan
and Isabel Kemp.

You mention in your article, a brother Roderick. I have Rory bc1773 but no Roderick,
information which I found on familysearch.org

Do you know of anyone who may have information on these Mclennans that may be able
to help me ?

Many thanks & regards,
Angie.

I am hoping the death certificate may give me some information about
how Walter died and on what ship..

Family History Beginners Board / Trying to find source of record on familysearch.org
« on: Monday 10 October 11 09:53 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have a record on familysearch.org for a death of Master Mariner Walter Joss
age 45, that took place at the British Consulate, Carthagena, Murcia, Spain
on 1st August 1858.
There is an Indexing Batch number and source film number but I am unable to
find on that website any details of the source of that record.
It is under GB Deaths and Burials 1778-1988 under the name Walter Goss or Joss.

Walter Joss was 'living' in South Shields with his family and so far I have been unable to find
a record of a burial for him in that area. I guess he could have been buried at sea, however,
would I still expect a death certificate to have been completed for him in this country and
how would I find out the references required for that ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Angie.

Hello Westoe,

That's excellent, thankyou, your help is greatly appreciated.

George GJ did have an Aunt called Hannah and so that must be her.
I have a long line of Gibson's in my tree who appear to have been shipowners and master mariners and so I still have a lot of research to do on this.
I have asked my local library if it is possible to get hold of a copy of the Dictionary of Tyne Sailing Ships. I don't know the answer yet, not sure if there is a great demand for this book in Dorset  ;)

Thanks again,
Angie.
