Staffordshire / Re: Bank Cottage High st Kingswinford
« on: Monday 07 June 10 23:30 BST (UK) »I think the bank in question is likely to be the hill variety rather than the money lending one. The only hill in the area of high street kingswinford now is that of Wartell bank to the rear of the church, Wartell sounds like a corruption of Wart Hill and there could easily have been cottages at the base fronting the High st. I've looked at some old maps of the area (1850- 1900) and there are plenty of cottages but none individually named.
When I was researching some of my relatives I found it very confusing as prior to the formation of the urban councils all the districts in surrounding areas came under Kingswinford, hence what is now High street Brierley Hill was then called High street Kingswinford. There's a Bank street running off High st. B'Hill.........
good luck, Tony
