London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: joseph william kentish

Apologies. It has taken quite a while for me to restart this project.
Joseph William Kentish was born in Bethnal Green London in 1912. He was a twin but his sibling died quite quickly after birth. He was in WW2, we think in the Royal Army Service Corps as a cook or similar. He married Phoebe Kentish and they had a daughter in November 1944. Soon after the girl was born JWK abandoned the family and was not heard of again but there was a Court maintenance order which was paid for several years. There was a suspicion of another woman/family but no evidence has been found. The last sighting was in around 1948 in London. We can find no record of JWK's death under his given name. There has been no contact with other Kentish family since. We would like to find out what name change might have occurred. Is this a hopeless task? I am the husband of his daughter.

Thanks Justin for the help on the name spelling variables - I suppose the pronunciation of the name was similar regardless of the phonetic spelling.

Is your family linked to the Friesers in some way?

I was bfraser with rootschat previously but have changed my sign-in details.

Thanks very much for the info on the previous generation of the Friesers in Krakow.  I had problems getting the information about the Krakow links. My wife and I even went to Krakow but there were few resources there that I could find. Nice city though and some evocative Jewish cemeteries.

The Fryzer/Freseur/Fryseur spellings of the surname is a puzzle to me. I suppose this is due to general indifference to spelling conformity at the time. However I am wondering how you were able to focus on this particular family as having the link with 'my' friesers. I have come across another Frieser family in Manchester at the time Morris and Miriam were young in the city and wondered if there was a connection by virtue of them having the same spelling of their names.

My brother Geoffrey let me know you were tying to get in contact. Please do send me an email if you want to or send a letter as you have my address. Your great grandad Jack was my uncle therefore your grandmother is my cousin.

Thanks for keeping an eye on my family. Was not aware that the 1911 census was available yet. So it was great to hear about my grandparents living in Bristol (in a pub no doubt) with their new baby Nora.
