Argyllshire / MacDONALD and CLARK
« on: Tuesday 28 December 04 01:06 GMT (UK)  »
I am seeking any information on the following or their descendants:
Donald MacDONALD and Marion CLARK, marriage date unknown.
Children (all born at Bowmore, Islay):
Archibald b18 July 1823 (not sure if this one belongs)
Julia b08 August 1831
Marion b10 November 1833
Donald b02 February 1836
Lily b20 September 1838

Julia and Lily emigrated to Launceston, Tasmania (previously Van Diemen's Land), Australia, arriving aboard The Anitpodes in 1861.

Julia married George WILLIAMS on 3 June 1861.
Lily married Jabez YOUNG on 27 January 1862. These are my husband's g grandparents.
Nothing is known of the other siblings, or of their parents. Did they also come to Australia, or, like many others was Canada their destination. I would love to find out. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. :)

Angus (Forfarshire) / Re: 1881 UK Census
« on: Tuesday 28 December 04 00:04 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you for your kind offer, Jean.
I have a Thomas Robertson and wife Jean living around the Dundee area (as far as I know). Sorry I don't know their ages but I would guess they would be in their 40s. A son Thomas was born approx 1861. He wasn't married at the time of the census but I don't know if he was still living at home. Other children if any are unknown.

I also have Henry Alexander Campbell, wife Mary  with any of the following children: Christina 25, Archibald 23, Mary 21, Henry 19, Allan 17, Adam 15, Catherine 13, Robert 11, Dugald 8 and Margaret 7. I think the family could have been living at Monifieth as this is where Catherine was born.

Sorry for waffling on for so long. Thank you once again. I am in Australia so if there is anything I can help you with here please let me know.
Rob.

Angus (Forfarshire) / Nicohl as a surname
« on: Monday 27 December 04 23:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone. I am new to this list and am hoping that someone can clear up something for me. Yesterday I went on to Scotlandspeople for the first time, searching (among other things) for the marriage of my gg grandparents John DEWAR and Mary NICOL. (I had been previously been given these names from another family member). What I found, however, was that on the marriage cert Mary's surname appears to be NICOHL or something similar. From what I could find this doesn't appear to be a name that appears very often so maybe I have got it wrong. I guess it could be NICOLL but the two last letters are definitely different. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Rob
