Oops, I overlooked your comment:

"...there is a Jane Stewart (pauper) born 1807 Dunblane on the 1851 census, born 1807 Dunblane...
Children - Duncan 1842, Edward 1845, Jane 1847, ROBERT 1849 Mary 1850 all born Stirling."

Yes, this does look very promising!  I searched for Edward's birth and found nothing in the IGI.  I'm out of credits for SP, so I'll have to recharge.

Interestingly, I have searched for this family in 1861 and cannot find them.  Edward appears in no census records post-1851 in UK, Canada or USA.  There is a possible match for Duncan on his own in 1861 residing in Kincardine as a farm labourer, but that's all I can find. I wonder if they emigrated.

FYI here is what I have on the McGregors:

Peter MCGREGOR, b 1829 in Muthill, Perthshire, Scotland.  Married on 11 JUN 1848 in Muthill, Perthshire, Scotland to Elizabeth BAYNE, b 1828 in Muthill, Perthshire, Scotland.  In 1841, Peter was residing with the family of Alex Miller in Muthill Village, Muthill, Perthshire, Scotland.  However Peter is shown as only 5 years old at the time.  It’s not known why he was not with his parents or what his relation is to the Millers.  Residing with them was 35 year old John Miller who is again found residing with Peter in 1861.  In 1851 Peter was residing in New Street, Blackford, Perthshire, Scotland and employed as a farm labourer.  In 1861 Peter was residing in Whitharns, Ardoch, Perthshire, Scotland, employed as a ploughman.  Also residing with them was 52 year old John Miller who matches with the John Miller residing with Peter in 1841.  In 1871 Peter was residing in Muthill, Perthshire, Scotland, employed as a dyke builder.  In 1881 Peter was residing in Muthill, Perthshire, Scotland employed as a dyke builder.  His grandchildren, May Williamson McGregor (parents unknown), Peter McLaren, Elizabeth McLaren, and Lillias McLaren (children of Helen McGregor) were also residing with them.  In 1891 Peter was residing alone at Thornhill Street, Muthill, Perthshire, Scotland and employed as a dyke and fence builder.  He was presumably widowed by this time.
1.   Janet MCGREGOR, b 1848 in Muthill, Perthshire, Scotland.  No birth registration has been found for her.  She married 11 DEC 1868 in the Free Church of Scotland, parish of Muthill, Perthshire, Scotland to Robert STEWART (above).  In 1851 & 1861 she was residing with her parents.
2.   Helen MCGREGOR, b NOV 1850 in Muthill, Perthshire, Scotland.  No birth registration has been found for her.  She was found residing with her parents in 1851 and not in 1861.   She married on 22 MAR 1870 in Muthill, Perthshire, Scotland to Archibald MCLAREN.

Anyway, here is what I have:

Robert STEWART, b 1848 in Logie (1871, 1891), Cornton (1901) or Falkirk (1881), Stirlingshire, Scotland, son of John STEWART and Janet MCCULLOCH. Occupation: ploughman (1868), farm servant (1871), agricultural labourer (1881), farm servant (1891), cotton work carter at Deanston Works (1901).  Residence: 1868 in Willurdistone (sic, Whirrieston), Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland; 1871 in Boquhapple, Kincardine-by-Doune, Perthshire, Scotland; 1881 in East Murdieston (Whirrieston or Munnieston?), Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland; 1891 at Broich Cottage, Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland; 1901 at 5th Division, Deanston, Kilmadock, Scotland. Robert married 11 DEC 1868 in the Free Church of Scotland, parish of Muthill, Perthshire, Scotland to Janet Hellen MCGREGOR, b 1848 in parish of Muthill, Perthshire, Scotland, daughter of Peter McGregor and Elisabeth Bayne.  Robert’s marriage record gives his parents' names as John Stewart and Janet McCulloch, which does not fit onomastically.  Also residing with the family in 1881 was Janet’s sister, Mary B McGregor, b 1861 in Muthill, Perthshire, Scotland.
1.   James STEWART, b 18 MAR 1869 in Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland. Residence in 1871 with parents. Not found in 1881. Presumed to have died in childhood 1871-1881.
2.   Elizabeth Bayne STEWART, b 10 JUL 1870 in Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland. Residing with parents in 1871 & 1881. Not residing with parents in 1891.
3.   Peter STEWART, b 2 MAY 1872 in Kincardine-by-Doune, Perthshire, Scotland. Residing in 1881 & 1891 with parents.
4.   Jane Pedderwick STEWART, b 7 FEB 1874 in Alva, Clackmannan/Stirlingshire, Scotland. Residing in 1881 with parents. Residing in 1891 at West Spittalton, Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland employed as a general domestic servant to the family of James King (whose daughter Lizzie King was a witness at Jane’s wedding). There is no such place name or surname found anywhere in Scotland as “Pedderwick”.  This is likely an IGI transcription error.  The original record has not been viewed.  See below.
5.   Robert STEWART, b 1876 in Logie, Stirlingshire (1881) or Kilmadock (1891), Perthshire, Scotland. Residing in 1881 & 1891 & 1901 with parents. Occupation: coal carter (1901). Marriage record gives Robert’s place of birth as Deanston, Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland.  Robert married in 1899 in Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland to Jane Ann Ferguson.
6.   Alexander Byne STEWART, b 1878 in Logie, Stirlingshire, Scotland. Residing in 1881 & 1891 with parents. His middle name is probably “Bayne”.
7.   Janet H STEWART, b 1880 in Logie, Stirlingshire, Scotland. Residing in 1881 & 1891 with parents.
8.   James STEWART, b 1882 in Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland. Residing in 1891 with parents.
9.   Mary Margaret STEWART, b 1884 in Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland. Residing in 1891 & 1901 with parents.
10.   Isabella McGregor STEWART, b 1886 in Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland. Residing in 1891 & 1901 with parents.
11.   Duncan STEWART, b 1888 in Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland. Residing in 1891 & 1901 with parents.
12.   John McGregor STEWART, b 1893 in Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland

(...continued)

As to the name Pedderwick, given the fact that he names his first daughter Elisabeth Bayne after his wife's mother, it would be reasonable to suggest that "Jane Pedderwich" was Robert's mother's name.  But, like you, I can locate no such person.  In fact I can locate no such surname or even place name anywhere in Scotland.  Since the name "Pedderwick" comes to us from the IGI, I suggest that it's a transcription error.  I hope to be able to download the original to have a look for myself.  But I've even searched for any birth or marriage in the right date range with James or John Stewart as father and Jane ____ as mother and looked for any mother's surname that even resembled Pedderwick and came up with nothing.

It's very frustrating for me, because most of the Stewarts residing in southern Perthshire and northern Stirlingshire were descended from Clan Stewart of Balquhidder.  And our clan records are extensive up to 1820, so if we could only get this family back another generation or two then I might be able connect them up with one of the branches of that clan and we'd have another 500 years of ancestry in an instant!

We are chasing ghosts here!
