I'm looking for descendants of Leslie (McGregor) Douglas born 3 Jan 1916 and/or any of his brothers. His parents were James Henry Douglas and Margaret Ewan Allan who emigrated from Scotland in 1912, and settled in New Jersey.
Margaret Allan was the daughter of James Allan (b.1843) and Margaret Ewan - I have a connection with James Allan. Anyone searching his family tree will find his marriage to Margaret Ewen in which the record shows James' father's name as Alexander Allan (deceased). End of story? No, Alexander was not deceased, he was transported to Australia for cattle stealing in 1844! I am descended from his second marriage in Australia. He married Jane Ogle in 1851 and they had 12 children!
I would love to find some descendants from James Allan, b.1843.

Yes, we are 4th cousins. I'll email you later today, but you would have to edit your last post to remove your email address as we are only supposed to give them out via personal messages.
Sorry, that was remiss of me. I have deleted the email address from the post.

GR2 - thankyou. Sorry I forgot about the earlier correspondence. It must be a few years ago.
Does that make us 4th cousins?
Would you like to give me a bit more info about Robert Allan?

You don't say when Alexander was transported to Australia

Have you looked for Mary & James on censuses after Alexander's transportation?  In 1851 Mary & James are living with Mary's mother Janet Duncan.  James is shown as b Cairnie and Mary 1822 Cairnie

Quote
In November Mary gave birth to a son James.

James was baptised 21.11.1843 but was born on 18.9.1843

Did James marry Margaret Ewen on 4.12.1868 in Aberdeen?  If so - who does he show as his father?
On the certificate he says his mother is still alive and gives his father as Alexander Allan, farm servant (Deceased).
Alexander was transported 18 Jan 1844

Mary Duncan married Alexander Allan (my 2xgreat grandfather) in 1843 at Drumblade.
In November Mary gave birth to a son James.
Unfortunately, in the meantime Alexander was convicted for stealing 4 head of cattle and transported to Australia.
I believe James grew up thinking his father was dead.
I have found a James Allan who died in Leith in 1930, aged 87 and wonder if it is Alexander's son?
Alexander married again(to Jane Ogle) in Australia and had a large family, including a daughter Rosanna who was my great grandmother. She was born on the Ballarat goldfields in Dec 1854. She probably never knew she had an older brother in Scotland.

Not sure if you have seen  that a William Burgess of Kirkland was listed in  the Urr Horse Tax Rolls 1797-1798 (1 horse)

Map~  http://tinyurl.com/2ufpe343

Little Kirkland, Meikle Kirkland and Kirkland Burn are all mentioned as in Urr in the 'Place names of the Stewartry' website  http://www.kirkcudbright.co/index.asp

Ah yes, thankyou! I'd forgotten about that we must have discussed this connection some years ago.
We visited the Parish Church at Urr in 2016 and found a headstone for John Burgess and his wife, but it was unreadable and we are not sure if there is a connection to Catherine.

Thankyou Gadget and hmcc for your replies. The McKenzies (Hugh and Bridget) were farmers at Glentoo which is in the Kirkcudbrightshire, although some of their 7 sons were registered in Balmaghie.
One of the sons, Kenneth (my 2xgreat grandfather) married Catharine Burgess in Urr in 1829 and I have noticed that a John McKenzie married Grace McNaughton also in Urr at almost the same time. I'm not sure if he was one of the brothers, but is more than likely.
I note that hmmc mentioned that Redcastle was also in Urr.
Hugh and the remaining four sons went to New Brunswick and I have records of a Petition for Land there in 1827 which ties in well with his details.
John was drowned in a shipwreck in 1831 off the coast of Nova Scotia.
Hugh and the last three sons, Hugh, Kenneth and Edward built a boat called the 'Brothers' and sailed to Albany, Western Australia in 1840.
I am writing a story about the McKenzie brothers, hence my interest in what happened to William, George and Cuthbert who have the monument in the Kirkcudbright cemetery.
