England / Scot marrying in the 'London area'
« on: Monday 28 January 13 21:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
My ancestor John Younger was born 1716 in Stitchel/Stichell, Roxburghshire, Scotland and married a lady called Mary Yates in the london area. I found this out from their grandsons autobiography. He was also called John Younger.
John and Mary has two children a daughter and a son William born 1747. Ive been unable to find any record of the marriage or any baptisms.
The London area to a Scot may have been a very wide area, but still i can not fin a Younger-Yates marriage anywhere in that period.
Can anyone help?

Roxburghshire / William Knox (Poet) link to John Knox reformer?
« on: Monday 28 January 13 13:39 GMT (UK)  »
I am a distant cousin of the poet William Knox who was born in Lilliesleaf rox. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Knox_(Scottish_poet)
Ive seen write ups which say he is or probably is a descendent of John Knox the reformer? Is there any way of proving this?
From what ive seen John Knox' sons had no issue.

Does anyone have access to original records of marriage in Stoke on trent?
My ancestors marriage was listed on the igi as happening 23/04/1826 in Stoke on trent. The couple were Charles Billington and Hannah forrester.
Basically id like to find what other info there may be that may not have been transcribed onto the internet ie mention of a parent, age, profession.

Hope someone can help, Tom

Scotland / Marriage age in 17th century Scotland
« on: Friday 25 January 13 18:40 GMT (UK)  »
My ancestor John Younger married Isobel Collingwood in Stitchel, Roxburghshire, Scotland on 29/06/1697. The only baptism i can find locally for a John Younger is in 1682 also in Stitchel to a Robert and Helen Younger.
If its the same John it would probably make him 15/16 at the time of marriage. Is this likely or is it probably the wrong John? I know people married very young in those days.
