Herefordshire / SMITH's of Kington (ish)
« on: Tuesday 28 November 06 14:42 GMT (UK)  »
help?? (Please)
I am trying to locate forfathers of my SMITH family, originating from Kington.

I have found them (the main family members) on the census returns, but I can't go further back than that (1841) - they are pretty illegible too !!

James SMITH (1811) married Janes (JONES) (1811).  They had William (1834), John (1836), Thoms (1838), George (1840) - up until this point they lived in Castle Hill, Kington - 1841 census.  They went on to have: Elizabeth (1834), Henry (1847), Charles (1849) and lived in Brilley, Bradnorshire, Presteigne (1851 census)  They then had: Catherine (1851), Arthur (1853) and finally Jane (1855) and lived in Floodgates, Presteigne - on the 1861 census

Their Son John (1836) married an Elizabeth Muscott/Mascott/Muskett, and had John (1857), James (1859)* this is my G/grandfather. They lived in Montfod Place, Kington in 1861.  They went on to have: Thomas (1862), Jessie (1865), Elijah (1867), William (1870), Annie Elizabeth (1874). They all lived in Mill Street, Kington.

If ANYONE is a relative of any of these I would love to hear from you.

I am desperately trying to go further back than the 1841 census to find more about James and Jane (1811).  If anyone can help I would be grateful.

Many many thanks

Elaine

Cornwall / GREENWAYS of Veryan/Grade
« on: Monday 04 September 06 21:45 BST (UK)  »
I have found a George GREENWAY, born 1785/1786 in Ruan, Lanihorne (please excuse the spelling). he married Susanna Pascoe in Veryan in 1812.  He died and was buried in Veryan in 1853.

I would dearly like to find out his parents, or any siblings ... I seem to have hit a brick wall going further back than 1785 ??

I know the children he and Susanna had, but I need his immediate family to go forward with .....

HELP ???

Many thanks

Herefordshire / SMITHs and HOMERs of Kington, Hereford
« on: Friday 04 November 05 09:34 GMT (UK)  »
My Great Grandfather was JAMES SMITH .. he was one of 8

Annie Elizabeth (1873)
William (1870)
Elijah (1866)
Jessie (1864-1872)
John (1857)
Thomas (1861)

he married Mary HOMER.  Mary is the Daughter of Benjamin HOMER.  She was one of 10

Charlotte (1849-1861)
Alice Maria (1852)
Lucy (1854)
Ellen (1857)
Mary (1859)
Benjamin George (1864-1946)
Emma (1862)
Charlotte (1867)
Florence (lived in Calcutta, and had her ashes brought back to Kington in 1931)  I know nothing other than this little snippet, so ANY additional informaion REALLY would be appreciated.

I have quite a bit of information on the HOMERs, but know nothing about the SMITH side.

I DO know that James's Father was John Smith (b: c1836) to Elizabeth Muscatt (spelling varies on different entries)

Johns father was James SMITH (b: c1813), married to a Jane Jones

All the Smiths appear to be from Kington, with one or 2 children being born in Presteigne ....

I hope there is someone out there that can fill in the gaps

Thanks very muchly ....

Devon / EVANS ... Balsom .. NICKLEN .. in Exeter
« on: Friday 04 November 05 09:00 GMT (UK)  »
I have managed to find my GGG Grandfather, Alfred Evans, born c 1830 in Otterton/Otherton, living in Heavitree.

He married Mary Ann Balsom in 1848, she originated from Heavitree.

They had (amongst others) a Son Sidney, who married an Ellen Stone (they actually married in Cardiff, but lived in Exeter)

I am hoping there is someone out there with a connection to one of these names ???
