Armed Forces / No Service number
« on: Wednesday 23 June 10 11:49 BST (UK)  »
As far as I can tell my Granddad was in the Boer war and had medals that   do confirm he was in the 14th Kings Hussars.

 The only problem is

only the 1914 - 18 medals had a number on them. ie, : 31312 on - george v ; gold angel ;1914 crossed swords.
the boer war and 2nd world war stars do not have numbers.????

Can anyone explain why there were no service number on them at this time please. I have been told that  his service number 31312 related to  his other medals. I have a record of the medal card  for these thank you but still trying to find out more about  the ealier medals

confused
