Cornwall / chenoweth
« on: Wednesday 25 July 12 22:46 BST (UK)  »
hello

anyone interested in john chenoweth, native of cornwall, a teacher of joinery (carpentry) who lived, worked and died in west london and left a teaching legacy that made an impression.

please note that this was prompted by a reply to a post that was originally in london & middlesex in 2010 and is simply for reference purposes.

Surrey Lookup Requests / buss/clarke "COMPLETED"
« on: Wednesday 11 July 12 23:15 BST (UK)  »
hello

i am trying to locate walter henry buss and elizabeth clarke.

married in 1888 i have then on the 1891, 1901 and 1911 census.

i have a possible free bmd birth for a henry in 1865 and elizabeth clark in 1867.

i cannot locate either of them in 1871 and 1881 and as yet i have no information on their parents that might point me in the right direction.

i will obtain a marriage cert but in the meantime any information would be greatly appreciated.

Herefordshire Completed Look up Requests / louisa salisbury "COMPLETED"
« on: Tuesday 10 July 12 22:18 BST (UK)  »
trying to locate birth/baptism for louisa salisbury.

birth year dates range between 1868 and 1874

birth year 1868 according to 1871 and 1891 census (missing in 1881 but not important).

1911 census shows birth year 1874 age 37, marriage cert 1913 gives age as 43!
address on 1911 census is the same as on the marriage certificate.

parents (john and mary ann, married 1855) confirmed on 1861 and 1871 census with louisa on 1871 age 3.

The Lighter Side / SEX, AGE & LOCATION
« on: Saturday 05 May 12 23:08 BST (UK)  »
hello all,

i thought this heading might attract more notice than it may be worthy of but it is a relevant topic.

when someone posts a request why do they avoid indicating AS&L!

when a chatter replies to a post with helpful advice the return is usually "i live in xxx and cannot hope to do a personal visit!!

i don't view rootschat as being a social network type of site so see no need to omit my age, gender and location, i think it puts people at ease, especially new chatters.

what say you?

The Lighter Side / who is the daddy?
« on: Friday 13 April 12 08:28 BST (UK)  »
hello all,

here's a conundrum i have recently come across from the 1870's.

emily married faithfull and they had a family.
faithfull died and emily married his brother william and they added to the original family.

so william was emily's brother-in-law, husband, uncle to his nieces and nephews and father of his brothers childrens step brothers and sisters!

who said genealogy could be complicated?

London and Middlesex / london research material moved to newcastle
« on: Tuesday 28 February 12 22:33 GMT (UK)  »
hello chatters,

a report in a December 2011 genealogy magazine indicates that GRO microfiche index collections - BMD, Civil Partnerships, Adoptions, Provisional indexes B&D 2010-2011 and overseas BMD have been moved to Newcastle Library from London Met Archives and access via the British Library and Westminster Archives will be reduced!

this to enable better access across England!

not sure how people in the South East or South West of England might view this, London being reasonably accessable and North Midlands being a more central access point!

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / streets *COMPLETED*with no names
« on: Monday 06 February 12 23:33 GMT (UK)  »
hello family,

here's a poser,

i am researching the history of the queens park estate (artizans & avenues) and in 1881 the streets (not the avenues) were titled a to p. they do not appear to be accessable as "a" street etc.

in 1881, two of the streets (marne and nutbourne) are accessable on the FindMyPast census under their given names, the other 12 do not appear to be.

i have accessed one "e" street address because i had a named individual that i was researching.

all named streets appear from 1891 onwards.

the avenues also present an enigma as 1st/first avenue does not throw up a result, although in later census returns it and the other avenues does.

i'm missing a link somewhere so help me out.
