Lancashire Lookup Requests / Date of Gt Grandmothers death.
« on: Thursday 29 January 09 22:15 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find the date of death of my Gt Grandmother.

Her name was Eliza Corr born in Ireland approx 1851 she moved to Lancashire and is shown on the 1881 Census ( Surname "Core" ) living with my Gt Grandfather John in Wigan with their two children John ed and Eliza ( both born in Bolton). They then moved to Leigh where my Grandfather George Corr was born in 1884 and finally they moved to Hollinwood , Oldham . She is found on the 1901 Census living with my Grandfather George ( age 16 ). I have searched the BMD with no luck unless it's been transcribed with the wrong spelling i.e. Core or Carr ? My Grandfather turns up in the 1911 Census living with his wife Hannah and Son Edwin ( my Father ) but no sign of Gt Grandmother Eliza .

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tony.

Europe / Corr coming from Ireland to Lancashire England
« on: Wednesday 28 January 09 21:55 GMT (UK) »
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

My Great Grandparents John and Eliza Corr came from Ireland to Lancashire England prior to the British 1881 Census.

In the 1881 Census they are shown as living in Wigan on Golborn Street with two of their Children. John Ed and Eliza.

John my Great Grandfathers date of Birth is 1850
Eliza my Great Grandmothers date of Birth is 1851

It states on the Census that they were both born in Ireland. The two Chidren are shown as being born in Bolton , Lancashire.

They then moved to Leigh where my Grandfather George was born in 1884.

The 1881 Census shows the surname as "Core" it's always been assumed that whoever took the Census misspelled the surname.

In Leigh they are back to "Corr " again.

My Great Grandfather John died in Leigh at age 36.

My Great Grandmother Eliza turns up on the 1901 Census living with my Grandfather George in Hollinwood Oldham. It states on that Census that she's from Dublin , Ireland.

I have my Grandfather Georges Birth Cert and Marriage Cert on which shows my Great Grandmother Elizas maiden name as Terril but it's difficult to make out exactly.

I can't find anything further on Eliza nor can I find any information on them in Ireland . So I'm posting on here to see if anyone can give me some guidance or assistance.

Thanks

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Core family information required
« on: Thursday 31 March 05 02:06 BST (UK) »
I'm not sure if this is the forum , but I have a question on the following information that I found on the internet on the 1881 census.

My question on the information that I posted below is .... Can these people(my Great Grandparents) be found on an earlier Census and how would I trace John and Eliza back to Ireland , Dublin I believe (not Lancashire I know). I have found Eliza on the 1901 Census living with my Grandfather George (Born 1884) just the two of them , so I'm assuming that my Great Grandfather John had passed away by 1901 and the two kids on the census below had moved on (John I think went into the army). Anyway I hope some of that makes sense. I guess I'm just asking for some direction.
Thanks for your time
Tony.

« on: Saturday 26 March 05 15:51 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace my wifes family from Colne Lancashire. Her Great Great Grandfather was Cork Townson and her Great Great Grandmother was Ann Townson. They would have been approx 42 and 35 at the time of the 1881 census.

They lived at
6 Cross St
Colne, Lancashire, England

If anyone has anything that would assist us in getting further information on the above subject , such as how to get birth certs or any other certs we would love to hear from you.

Thanks Tony and Janis
