Scooped this today from my great auntie, young Robert Williams and his grandmother Grace Williams of Blaenau Festiniog, formerly Grace Roberts.  Robert was to become Vicar of Llanrug then Llanwnda ("Bob Llanwnda"), a rural Dean of the Church of Wales whose son won the bardic crown at the Eisteddfodd a couple of yrs ago.

He married someone in Lord Snowden's family and we have a photo of him with HRH Princess Margaret and Lord Snowden.

Lovely cheeky look on his face dont you think?
Maybe repair and colour please.
regards Gareth

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / That's Entertainment!

Okay, as you folks on this site have been so good to me with my photos, purely for entertanment value see what you make of this then.

My recollections are that my grandmother amusingly called him Will 'Mary Ann' now dont ask me if its an early Pete Best version or if he was a member of the Conwy Players or if he was simply going to enter in a competition at Conwy Honey Fete, honey being the operative word I think.  Must be after 1900.

Still one has to laugh!

« on: Thursday 07 June 07 11:52 BST (UK)  »
Please can Old Rowley provide a comment on this ladies clothing, perhaps she is off to a funeral or even a wedding?  I know she is Welsh and probably from Conwy or perhaps Trefriew or even Festiniog, North Wales.
Thanks Gareth

Hello
The back of my grandmothers photo here says 'Glass R Tint'whatever that means?  It also says 'Hair dark brown, eyes brown and mauve blouse'.  Would a tint been have coloured like this by hand?  There isnt a date but I think circa 1918 as she was born 1900.

I would really like to have this photo done in the colours mentioned if possible.  A second darker photo is shown in the same blouse but its the larger image I'd like to be done please.
thanks Gareth

Hello, maybe one for Old Rowley?  I am looking for a date on this 3d image that I secured on a popular auction site recently.  Maybe the clothes will help or the Admission 6d entrance price on the left turnstile.  How does this compare say with football prices for Stoke City or Port Vale the local teams?

Oh yes, what on earth did they call these photo types?

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Glasper family of Stokesley
« on: Saturday 02 June 07 14:13 BST (UK)  »
I have recently been doing some family history on a Glasper family in Middlesbough who married our Joseph Bonner son of a Joseph Bonner.

100 Lumley Street and 12 Manor Street, Middlesbrough are two of the addresses from census.

These Glasper's originated from Stokesley, Thomas Glasper boot and shoemaker and his wife Ann (1841) eventually had 6 children and one of them Thomas Ruddock seems to have had 8 of his own.

If anyone has an interest in the Glasper family please dont hesitate to get in touch.  Thanks Gareth.

PS Now looking for Glasper MI's please let me know if you find any.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Ellen (Nell) Griffiths
« on: Thursday 31 May 07 16:36 BST (UK)  »
This is Ellen or Nell as she was known born 1887 Dolwyddelan, a sister to Robert John Griffiths whose photo I posted a few days ago.

As everyone was so helpful in terms of clothing advice, please can someone see if they can clean and colourise this photo.  I havent a clue on the dress colour or details or the chair itself, presumably a posed photo in a studio looking rather literate reading a book.  I knew her well in her later life as my grandfather's sister when she lived in Conwy.

She worked on refreshments at Northampton, Rugby, Rhyl and Windermere railway stations, she grew up at Blaenau Festiniog, Bettws Y Coed, Dolwyddelan where her father was a porter/signalman.

She married a chap named Arthur Watts from Kngsthorpe Northampton and I have  a few photos of the Watts family taken there.  She never had any children so she treated us instead:)  The photo is just as it is rather large.

Cheshire / Thurlwood
« on: Tuesday 29 May 07 16:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am trying to get an understanding of where the boundary lay for Thurlwood Parish next to Rode Heath, can anyone list a few surrounding road names for me to get the feel for the old parish boundary please?  Did it have its own church?  What are the early farms or buildings there?  Would a tithe map/apportionment help me?
Thanks Gareth
