Armed Forces / 1/8th regiment Malta
« on: Tuesday 12 February 19 21:07 GMT (UK)  »
Evening.  I am trying to find my Great Great Grandfather, Daniel KENNEDYs military record/service number.
The information I have is that on 01/09/1868 he married as a Sgt of1st/8th Regiment in Valletta, Malta.
I believe that on 10Oct 1868 the1st/8th embarked for Bombay, where it arrived on 3 November1868. Would his new wife have accompanied him?

The next time I can find Daniel is when his Daughter, Caroline gets married on 20/10/1891 in Valletta, Malta.  Daniel is shown as 'prison warder' Corradino

Any help in tracking down more information would be much appreciated.

Other Countries / INDIA - Frances Mina Beatrice Thurston/Donlan/Thompson
« on: Saturday 12 January 19 19:46 GMT (UK)  »
Evening all.  I am trying to track down the death of my Paternal Grt GrandMother Frances Mina Beatrice Thurston.  Her 1st marriage was to Frederick Donlan (often mis-transcribed as DOULAN) after Fredericks death she married Herbert Thompson.

My Dad remembers his Grand Mother in India. He was born 1937, the family left India in 1949 by which time Frances had died.  Interestingly she is shown on my Dads Baptism certificate as his God Mother.

Any help in tracking down her death would be appreciated.  Thank you

Armed Forces / INDIA - Bengal army
« on: Sunday 12 August 18 20:27 BST (UK)  »
Evening all, I have finally managed to pin down my 4x Great Grand Father, Joseph SMITH with the following record:
Joseph SMITH, Drum major. Invalid veteran company. Year of enlistment: 01/09/1792.  From Lower Orphan school
Died 05/10/1838

Unfortunalty I have hit another brick wall as I cant locate him in any muster rolls covering the above dates.  As it says he was from the Orphan School I have presumed his Father wouldve been in the Army. Also I cannot find a death cert/burial for him even though i have the date!
Can any one help me unravel this mystery?  I have attached a screen shot of the information I found

Norfolk / John & Hannah DRAPER of Sloley
« on: Wednesday 04 October 17 20:43 BST (UK)  »
Last week we visited the church of St Bartholomew, Sloley to see if we could find the graves of my 5x great grandparents, John & Hannah DRAPER.  Unfortunately there was not a marked grave for them.
Since returning home I have been looking to find out more about them (where they lived in the village, work etc.)
John was born 1745 and died 1827 (both Sloley)
Hannah nee MUNFORD was born 1744 and died 1837 (both Sloley)
They married in Sloley 15/09/1772 and went onto have children, Sara, Frances(my 4x grt g/m), Elizabeth & Martha.
I would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction to these two and the lives they lived in this small Norfolk village.
