London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1861 census Clerkenwell please
« on: Sunday 27 February 05 07:12 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone please find Charles Medhurst + family 1861, Clerkenwell, probably St James.  He seems to have lived for many years (found in 71/81/91/01), in Brunswick St or Cl.  He was a 'horse hair curler'.  Probable details are:

Charles age 36/37
Maria, dau, age 8
Charles, son age 4
Lizzy, dau age 1

He may also have a wife who may or may not be Jane.  In 1871 she is listed, age 33 which might be a bit young to have been the mother of these children (i.e. Maria would have been born when she was 15).  There may also be in same street a William Medhurst age abt 32 who I think is Charles brother, also a Horse Hair Curler.  Possibly with family including a son, also William, age not sure .

Happy hunting everyone

Antrim / 1891/1901 Census O'FEE
« on: Saturday 12 February 05 16:29 GMT (UK)  »
Is anyone able to check and see if there were any remaining O'FEE or perhaps OFEE in Antrim in 1891 or 1901.  There were a couple of families in 1851.  I know one lot went to Scotland, not sure about the others.  Its very uncommon name so there shouldn't be many

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / In a bit of a pickle
« on: Saturday 12 February 05 11:23 GMT (UK)  »
I am tearing my hair out over my great grandmother.  I have no idea where she originated from, but know she was born in 1876, her name was Jane Elizabeth BRYANT and her father was Henry BRYANT, a deal porter.

There are many possibilities for her birth registration, so I need to narrow it down.  I can't find her in ANY census.  I have traced the Jane Elizabeth BRYANT born in Knaresborough JFM 1876, whose father was Henry and its not her - in 1901 she was married off and still living in Yorkshire, whereas by then my Jane was in Islington and married to Frederick or George VERRIER (married 1895).

I have searched in vain for her in 1881 and 1891 and cannot find anyone of vaguely the right details.  One possibility was a Jane, (Briant),  living with mother Jane (widow) and brother Daniel, but that was no good as the mothers husband was Bartholomew.

I can't find her once she becomes a VERRIER either. :(

I am desperate to get a start on her - can anyone help :)

Antrim / O'FEE and MARKS
« on: Monday 07 February 05 16:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am looking for George O'FEE who married Mary Ann MARKS around 1850, probably Antrim.  I have their details from the 1851 census, where they are shown with son Edward (1) at the MARKS residence in Rasharkin.  I want to find out the names of the further nine children of George and Mary Ann, borm 1850 onwards.

Also I would like to identify George O'FEE's parents/siblings.

I am not having much luck - as far as I can see there is not much info on line.  Any ideas would be great

many thanks

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / 1901 Census Knaresborough
« on: Thursday 03 February 05 11:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I wonder if anyone can find Jane Elizabeth Bryant in Knaresborough 1901.  (I have tried the 1901 online site with no luck).  She is consistent on earlier census as born Knaresboro(ugh).  In 1891 she was living with her grandmother Jane Dobson, age 70 in Gracious Street, Knaresborough.  The grandmother had probably died by 1901, but I have not confirmed this.  Jane would be about 25 in 1901.  There were other Dobsons in the area she may be with.  I realise she could have married by age 25, but I can find no evidence of this so am trying to investigate all possibilities

Thanks

Hi, I wonder can anyone who has the 1901 on disk/cd please look up

Frederick or George VERRIER(25 ish), along with wife Jane Elizabeth VERRIER (25 ish)and children Frederick George VERRIER(5 ish) and Mary Ann or Maud VERRIER (2 ish).  Husband was a Carman/Cabman or Railway Porter

I have hunted high and low on the 1901census site and can find no trace.  They were living around Risinghill St area, (St Silas Church, Penton St is where the children were baptised), but I have no definite address.  Any help would be great as this is driving me mad.

Many thanks

Hi everyone

apparently my great grandmother used to do the laundry 'for the nuns'.  This is a lead I would like to explore, but have been unsuccessful finding any refernces to a convent in the area.  She lived in Islington/St Pancras to the east of Kings Cross around Penton St area.  Does anyone know of any convent that exists/existed in this area.

Many thanks
