Devon Lookup Requests / Tavistock Kinsman
« on: Wednesday 15 May 13 17:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootchatters
There is a referenence on the Nat Archives site for a Caleb Kinsman a tailor son of Caleb an Inn Keeper
National Archives
B274/23  1806
[Lease and release - release missing]
1. Caleb Kinsman, p. Tavistock, tailor, son of Caleb Kinsman, innkeeper, dec'd.
2. Edward Bray, p. Tavistock, esq.
(Property as in B274/17-18)
According to Stoates Transcriptions of Tavistock
Caleb Kinsman Snr was baptised
Kinsman, Caleb son of John, 21 Nov 1723 bapt Tavistock
And buried
Kinsman, Mr. Caleb, 11 Jul 1772 burial Tavistock

Between 1761 -1769 Caleb Kinsman Snr had six children baptised and three buried in Tavistock, but there is no mention of a son Caleb.
There is only one entry for a baptism for Caleb Kinsman;

Kinsman, Caleb son of John & Elizabeth, 1 Dec 1761

The previous entry on Stoates before Caleb’s baptism is for a Benjamin Davis son of John and Elizabeth.

I have read that there are some error’s on Stoates transcriptions.

My question is can anyone please check the original record to check either if Caleb was the son of John and Elizabeth or if there was a Caleb Kinsman baptised circa 1760? I have tried the OPC clerk for Tavistock who does not have the original film for this period.

I would be very grateful for any help or ideas.

Gloucestershire / William Pitts marriage about 1723
« on: Tuesday 09 April 13 11:23 BST (UK)  »
I have seen a marriage on a tree for William Pitts to Ann Shillington.
Their children were apparently baptised in Great Barrington 1724 to 1737.
Can anybody confirm this marriage or baptisms or perhaps tell me where the records can be found.
Thank you in advance of any help.

Cornwall / Is anybody going to Truro RO?
« on: Wednesday 03 April 13 17:19 BST (UK)  »
If any kind soul is visiting the RO I would love to know if there are any banns for or any extra information on a marriage. I really would love to know Robert's parish.

Robert JAGO married 03 Dec 1776 Maker Cornwall to Mary HENDER
I have been unable to find his burial in the area between 1792 after the baptism of his last child and before 1817 when his wife’s settlement order says he is deceased.

So I am at a brickwall and my last hope is that his marriage may help.

Cornwall / Burials in Maker/Rame area
« on: Friday 22 March 13 08:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatter
Can anyone help me find two burials? (Or any other clues I know how clever you are!)

have found a removal for a Mary Jago a widow in 1817 and am trying to understand her situation.
I believe Mary herself was born 1750 buried in 1822 at Maker of Millbrook.

She worked for a Mr. Joseph Kerley at Lower Anderton in the Parish of Maker. To understand the chronological order I would love his year of burial etc.

Mary was the widow of Robert Jago who she married in 1776 at Maker and their children were baptised in Maker 1778-1792.

Therefore I assume Robert died after 1792 but before 1817 but I cannot find a burial.
One thought is that there were mariners in the Jago family and I wonder if he died at sea.

Mary Jago's last job was working at The Kings Brewery at Southdown, Millbrook which also has obvious Naval links.

Any help would be greatly appreciated?

I think Alice SALES may have died after 1747 where her last child was bapt in Hadlow and before 1750 when Joseph remarried at Wilmington and but he was in Frant in 1752 when his son Richard was bapt Joseph SALES died before 1786 when his second wife was a widow.

Essex / Southchurch marriage
« on: Monday 25 February 13 13:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All
On the IGI there is a marriage
Thomas Bradford married 5 Oct 1825 to Sarah Carriage at Southchurch Essex I04646-6

Is it possible that anybody may be able to let me know if there is any extra information for this marriage? Ages ago (not sure where from) I had Thomas married to Sarah Kerridge and think perhaps this may be a name variation.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Wiltshire / Devizes burial
« on: Wednesday 20 February 13 12:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All
I wonder if it is possible that there may be some extra information for a burial which appears on the IGI?
Samuel HAYWARD buried 1 Mar 1824 St John the Baptist Devizes, Wilts,
I know that Samuel's last child was bapt 1812 at St John the baptist in Devizes and that his wife is probably living at the Alms houses in Devizes on the 1841 census.
From his son's marriage certificate Samuel was a gardener.
I have searched for years but I have no idea of Samuel's age or place of birth so anything which may appear on the burial may help.

Sussex / Marriage before 1629
« on: Monday 21 January 13 15:23 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone can help with a marriage of two sister?
I have the will of Samuel Underhill dated 1629 although he was 'sick of body' he did not say he was old. I believe he married
Samuel Vndrell [Underhill] married Margery Woodgate 16 Nov 1615 at Cowden Kent
Samuel named his two sisters
Elizabeth who married John possibly Greene
and
Agnes Underhill's married name was possibly 'Shorrey'. Agnes had two daughters (under the age of 20 in 1629) Mary and Joane.
There is only one other marriage for Underhill in Cowden (on the IGI) for the Underhill family;
Thomas Vndrell married Anne Wykinge 16 Jul 1605 at Cowden Kent

The Underhill family may have been of 'Prickenham' [Prickenham Farm] which was just over the border to Surrey(Lingfield) south of Starborough Castle.
Any help would be appreciated to help date or identify this family
