Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Emma Painter of New Forrest
« on: Sunday 12 December 04 16:32 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find out anything about Emma Painter born 1838 in New Forrest.  Possibly Abbots Ann and possibly Her Father was call Joseph and Mother Mary.  The only other clue is she always said she was Irish - possibly an Irish Mother.  It has also been suggested her Mother might have been from a 'Traveller' family in the New Forrest - picking up on the Irish connection ?  Have also bee told we have Quaker ancestors and she might have been an Irish Quaker.  Any info at all would be very much appreciated.

Trying to find parents of Thomas Gale b. 1829 North Poorton, Powerstock.  (from Census records).  He married Mary Ann Orchard b. 1841 Winfrith.  They married at Bridport, Jun Qtr 1862.  Both died in Poole.  Also had an association with Owermoigne.

Probably 1851 Census, best bet.

Would very much appreciate a 'lookup'.

Any Kettlety's out there ?  Extremely difficult finding this family despite a rare name.  I have an Albert Kettlety married to an Elizabeth Prescott both born around 1882 in Avon, Wilts or Worcs.

Any info at all would be very much appreciated.

Dorset / Emma Painter of Dorset

My G/Gma always told everyone she was Irish.  She was known in the family as 'The Irish Granny'.  Born in 1838 - somewhere, she married Peter James Way at St James Church, Poole in Sept 1867.  She went on to be a huge character of the town, running a sweet shop in Lagland Street.  Homesick emigrants would write home about Granny Way.  I had not been able to find her anywhere.  At her wedding, her Father Joseph signed as a witness and said he was a Farmer at Shapwick !  I have found an Emma in the 1841 Census in Shapwick, but no mention of a Joseph.  The only real evidence I have found is the Marriage.  I now think she was illigitimate as often they were not baptised and I cannot find her in any Parish records.  I am assuming her Father was a passing Irishman.  I cannot find a trace of Joseph in Blandford area.  I cannot even find Emma's death in Poole !.  If anyone comes accross her, please let me know.

:-\ ??? Trying to find the Kettlety's.  Albert Kettlety born approx 1882, in Claines Worcs.  Married Elizabeth Prescott.  No idea of any dates for births or marriages or deaths.  No idea where Elizabeth was born or who were their parents.  This is not for lack of trying - for some reason, very elusive.  Would appreciate any pointers.
