Cheshire Completed Lookup Requests / Sandbach - Marriage 1831
« on: Friday 24 February 06 08:09 GMT (UK)  »
A couple of weeks ago I asked for help to find the marrriage of Joseph MAJOR and a Sarah ?. From the birth certificate of one of their children, I now know that Joseph MAJOR married Sarah CAPPER. Looking on the Bertram Marriage Index I found Joseph MADGER m Sarah CAPER 25 July 1831 Sandbach St Mary.
Would it be possible for someone to check the Sandbach records and see if the marriage mentions any parents or any witnesses. I am trying to find out if this Joseph is the son of John and Ann Major.
Thanks for any help.

Armed Forces / Richard DARRELL Liverpool 2nd regt. Boer War
« on: Tuesday 21 February 06 22:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I wonder if you might see if there is a Richard Darrell mentioned in the Boer War. At the end of 1902 he was in the Liverpool 2nd Regiment, so I presume that was his regiment in the Boer War too. I have seen his obituary (he died in 1948) and it says he fought in the Boer War. He would only have been in his early 20s though.
Thanks

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Marriage c1832 Elton/Warmingham/Haslington
« on: Tuesday 14 February 06 13:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am trying to find the marriage of Joseph Major and Sarah?. On the censuses it says that Sarah was born c1813 in Elton or Warmingham. Joseph was born c1812 in Haslington. The oldest child I have was born c1832 so I expect the marriage would have been about then.
If anyone has access to any of the parish registers for these places, could they look up the marriage for me please.
I am hoping it will give Joseph's father's name  (John, hopefully).
Thanks

Norfolk / BULLEN/NOTTS/ENGLISH in Hilgay
« on: Wednesday 25 January 06 08:25 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace information on the parents of my Great Great Grandmother. She was Mary BULLEN born 1801 in Hilgay. Her parents were William and Anne BULLEN. Now there are several William BULLENs knocking about but I have managed to narrow it down to one who married a Sarah NOTTS in 1808. They had a son William BULLEN in 1810. I am presuming that Anne (the mother of my Mary BULLEN) must have died sometime between 1801 and 1808 and William remarried to Sarah.
A Sarah BULLEN  was buried  in 1853 in Hilgay aged 84.
On the 1851 census Sarah BULLEN is aged 82 widow born Wimbotsham.
On the 1841 census Sarah BULLEN is living with Joseph and Diana ENGLISH and family at Modney Hall, Hilgay
Now Dianah ENGLISH must be related to Sarah BULLEN (Nee NOTTS) as Dianah's maiden name was KNOTTS -
Joseph ENGLISH and  Dianah KNOTTS married in 1825 in Hilgay
So, does anyone recognise any of these people and can they add anything that will help prove I have the correct William BULLEN in the first place!
Thanks

« on: Wednesday 04 January 06 11:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am still trying to find more on Richard DARRELL born c1879 and died
1948.
I only know his birthdate from his age at marriage and age at death. The
marriage certificate also states that his occupation was seargent 2nd
Liverpool, and his father was also a Richard (deceased) and a joiner.
I know that he married Sarah Ellen MOSS in 1902 in Great Sankey, Warrington,
Lancashire. (I have found her on all the censuses.)
Family say that he was in the Black Watch
I know that he was Physical Training teacher at Rossall School in 1919 to at
least 1932.
I have found his medal card  listed on the National Archives site -
Description  Date  Catalogue ref Details
Medal card of  Darrell, Richard
Corps: Army Gymnastic Staff
Regiment No: 1298
Rank: Serjeant/Acting Company Serjeant Major
1914

Possible children are-
Richard DARRELL born 1904.( married Annie WOOD in 1927 Fylde district)
Jesse DARRELL born 1906
Elizabeth DARRELL born 1909 (married Ernest STEAD in 1932 Fylde district)
Winifred DARRELL (married George C GRANVILLE in Fylde district in 1934)

If anyone has any more information on my Richard DARRELL born c1879 or any of his
descendants, then I would be so happy to hear from them. I can't find his
birth on 1837 online. I can't find him on the censuses.
Thanks for any help.
I really do appreciate it.
This has been bugging me for a while.

Hi,
Looking for anyone with information or interest on McKAY surname in Richmond. My Aunt's husband was Charles Noel McKAY born c 1914 in Richmond. I think his mother's maiden name was DOIG. There was also a connection to Blairgowrie in Scotland.
Thanks
