Essex Lookup Requests / Jonathan Pitch Baptism
« on: Saturday 15 April 06 19:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I m trying to find the baptism of Jonathan Pitch possibly in Witham Essex.  He joined the army in 1858 apparently aged 25.  The 1861 census shows Private Jonathan Pitch aged 27, born Witham Essex and based in Brompton, Gillingham, Kent. This makes him born circa 1833/4.

The confusing thing is he does not appear again on the census until 1891 with his wife Emily and childeren again in Witham.  But, the census gives his age as 42 and born in Deptford, Kent.  Then just 5 years later 1896 his death certificate gives his age as 52.

Also, i ve checked the GRO indexes for a Jonathan Pitch between 1837 and 1850 but found nothing anywhere unless the surname was mispelled.  Of course it be he was never registered or he was born before 1837.

All a mystery.  If anybody can help me trace a Witham baptism for Jonathan I d be most grateful.

  Regards

Kent / Jonathan Pitch Baptism
« on: Saturday 15 April 06 17:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I m trying to find a baptism for Jonanathan Pitch supposedly born in Deptford Kent.  There is no sign of him prior to the 1891 census possibly due to him being the army, abroad maybe ?  His age is given as 42 but 5 years later in 1896 on his death certificate he was aged 52.

We have his army entry papers which state that he joined in 1858 aged 25 and that he was from Witham Essex. The 1861 census shows a Private Jonathan Pitch aged 27, born Witham Essex, based in Brompton, Gillingham, Kent.

This is a total mystery.  If anybody can help trace his possible baptism in Deptford???  I d be most grateful.

Suffolk / William STUBBINS
« on: Sunday 14 August 05 09:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

Please can anybody help ????  I m trying to find William Stubbins and his Mother Elizabeth. I ve had the 1851 Suffolk census index checked but no luck. William was illigitimate and born in the Haverhill Workouse. Birth registered in January 1852.  Can t find them on 1861 census either.

I m wondering if they may show up in the Risbridge Poor Law Union in the first half of the decade or maybe just Elizabeth prior to his birth.  No baptism records exist from the workhouse during this period but he may have been baptised outside in Haverhill Parish.  I know nothing of Elizabeth s roots hence the search!!

If anybody can shed some light I d be most grateful.

Hi,

Does anybody have access to the 1851 Suffolk census covering Haverhill???  I m looking for Elizabeth Stubbings who gave birth to a son William on 8th Jan. 1852 in the Haverhill Workhouse.  There is a good chance Elizabeth was there at the time of the census and I d very grateful if anybody could give me her age and place of birth and any other Stubbings who may also be resident if possible??

   Many thanks
