Would you please have a look for this man - we think he died at Dunkirk..

Michael - poss middle name Vernon - TAYLOR.  I have no idea of age i'm afraid, but I would guess late 20's early 30's. I understand if this is not enough info. He was from either Hertfordshire or Essex.

Many thanks - Sue

Completed Census Requests / 1871 Census Bengeo
« on: Wednesday 14 April 04 08:59 BST (UK)  »

I've had a look on the Herts FHS Site, they don't seem to have a members surname interest list.

I could do with a look up in 1871 for the following if anyone can help with any info i'd be gratefull

Robert Sturgeon age 44 born Thaxstead Essex - wife Maria age 43 born Cuffley Herts - it's the children listed with them that i'm after.  Robert was a Blacksmith.  They were living at Bengeo Street.

I have the later children but i'm interested in  John b c1847 - Charles c1851 - George c1853 and William c1865.

Many thanks - Sue

Heres something I learned..  Before you start paying, work out how many 'looks' you need.

Go straight to the image @75p a look.

The minimum payment is £5.00 so it will cost you that amount whatever..

If you need to look at say 7 or 8 images put in a maximum amount spend, ie £10.00 that way you will only pay for what you use without losing any money, if you have 7 'looks' you only pay £5.25
AND dont forget to SAVE the image.

Also if you buy the Vouchers they are valid for 6months you don't have to struggle to get everything done in one go..

Sussex / Nailard/Naylor - Knapp/Napp
« on: Monday 05 April 04 10:52 BST (UK)  »
:-[I apologise if this is long winded- can you help me sort out this muddle of Napps !

I begin with James Nailard/Napp born Burwash 1811 - he was an illegit. son of William Knapp and Hannah Naylor/Nailard

James b 1811, (married as a Nailard but seems to have called himself Napp)  marries Mary Potten in 1837.. Where were they in later census.  They had two sons that I know of, another James born Burwash 1838 and William born Heathfield 1844, they seem to have moved back and forth between the villages.

William Knapp has died by 1840 but where has Hanah, who seems to have kept her maiden name of Nailard gone ?

I also have a daughter of the above - Ruth Knapp born 1818, who I have from 1851 onwards with by now 4 children but describes herself as a widow  - someone has given her a husband James Napp but there is no evidence of him actually being her husband.

Where is Ruth Knapp/Napp in 1841, she had a daughter Georgeann/Georgina born H'fld around this time, 1840 by calculation, so i'm hoping she may have a 'husband' with her.

Any help on these would be much appreciated
