Cheshire / Frodsham/Cheshire Burials
« on: Sunday 04 October 20 11:07 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I'm looking at the burial pages for St. Lawrence Church Frodsham that appear on Find My Past.
Someone has helpfully referenced some of the burial pages with a specific grave reference e.g. OGB/14/04. In certain instances there is a supplemental page with the transcription of the headstone itself.

Does anyone know if a map of the churchyard at St. Lawrence at Frodsham exists which uses the references? I have dropped a note to the local archives but was wondering whether this sparks any insight from forum members.

Many thanks

Neil

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Suicide Cause
« on: Wednesday 12 August 20 22:04 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Just received a death certificate and the cause of death is given as suicide but I cant make out the additional text 1 (a) T ? Poisoning - but what is the type of poison? All very sad given the age of this relative. It happened in the late 1950s if that helps.

Many thanks

The Common Room / Living Relatives
« on: Saturday 08 August 20 17:17 BST (UK)  »
Hello

What advice can you give in the tracking of potentially current living relatives?
The online electoral register and indeed what is left of the phone book online doesn't appear to help. I've got to 2006 with a name address and then the scent goes cold.
Reaching out just in case I've missed a trick. A problem shared?  :)

I've recently discovered that my paper family history isn't the same as my genetic one. So with a bit of DNA 'track and trace' I've found what is likely to be the person that is linked to my family. Given he died in the 1960s I'm hoping that a living relative might be able to tell me more about him and indeed share a photo.

Many thanks

Hello - if you have access to electoral registers or about to head to the City Archives anytime soon....

I'm looking for the residents listed at 1 Berkley Avenue, Rusholme, South Manchester in 1908 (and possibly 1907 and 1909 too). Looking at the registers on FindMyPast for 1900 and before I believe this road is in Polling District 100 (i.e. Rusholme).

I have a relative born in this address in 1908 (John Brooks), though his family was based in Blackpool at the time. I'm hoping the residents of this house at the time will provide a key to some wider research in to John's family.

Many thanks

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / A town in Ukraine?!
« on: Saturday 06 June 20 14:02 BST (UK)  »
Hello

My family history research has suddenly transported me Eastwards, around 1500 miles Eastwards to I think modern day Ukraine. My source is an Alien registration form from the 1920s, where the place of birth is given as Russian something Kieff (kyiv). What or where do you reckon is the middle word?

I have a hunch but would be great to get your views.

Many thanks

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Will Signature

Hi all

Can anyone suggest what this name is?
It looks like Richard *o*ton - the first letter in particular is puzzling! If I had that letter it might help deciper the rest of the name.

Any help much appreciated.

Neil

For information the documents where this name appear are from the 1690s. The family names included in the rest of the document are Troughton, Smith and Singleton. Francis, Jane, Bridget, John, William, Richard - being the first names included, which has given me clues as to what letters it couldn't be!

Lancashire / Lancaster St. Marys/Priory MI
« on: Saturday 28 September 19 15:06 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Has anyone seen or has used the MI for St Mary's Lancaster?

I think (?) it's only available at Lancashire Archives i.e. not for purchase or viewable online, so will need to organise a trip North (from London) at some point. Before I do I want to get a sense as to how much is there and when it was compiled. Having lived in Lancaster for a number of years I don't remember the graveyard being that extensive, unless the cemetery was detached from the Priory?

Many thanks

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Will Relatives and names
« on: Saturday 09 March 19 10:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all

I'm trying to decipher a will written in the last part of the 17th Century, trying to understand the relationship of the author to the names listed. I can see brother Francis Troughton and I think sister Bridget Troughton, but who are the Singletons, and what are their names? Richard? What is their relationship? Also is there another Bridget mentioned later on, what is her relationship?

Many thanks

Neil
