Technical Help / I.E.8 Is Thumbs up for me
« on: Sunday 27 December 09 13:43 GMT (UK)  »
I am not one for downloading things from the net,or having two of everything.Which causes friction on the computer :) I do download important various updates though.
The other thing that stops me,is the problems others have when they update things.
However yesterday when i was on the net,for the fist time ever, the blue line appeared from security on my P.C. Telling me that my I.E. was 6 years old did i want to update to 8? So I did,Once i got ridd of all the unwanted toolbars i am pleased with it.  I would recommend that if any members need larger print and haven't got I.E. 8,they might like to upgrade.
Because on the bottom bar there is Zoom button you just click on the size you want,it will also come in handy for tired eyes 8)

Technical Help / Re: Bush DVD
« on: Sunday 29 November 09 17:12 GMT (UK)  »
A few years ago 5 maybe longer I bought a new D.V.D silver metal one.Unfortunately i found the films very expensive,so started hiring from the video shop, then the video shops shut down 1 by1 ::)I put it away for some years, till a few weeks ago and found the draw opens and shuts before i can put the disk in.I can hold the draw open while i put the disk in,but it  then says unknown disk.So something isn't reading the disk.As the DVD has hardly been used i am hoping it can be fixed,is that possible and who by?
I did buy the other day a little black one from asda but its to fiddly and the scart lead keeps coming out because it to heavy for the little box.I am taking it back :) Any idea's anyone?

The Common Room / RE: Scanning old marriage certs from a film
« on: Wednesday 25 November 09 16:20 GMT (UK)  »
I have seen members saying that they can scan an old cert from a film.I have been printing out until recently, these certs,I can see no way that you scan a film, it wouldn't be allowed to put a film in the scanner. You would only get a black line, after paying for it to be printed out i did scan some printouts myself at home then sent it by email (but then i was left with my printout)if it was to go abroad.Or sent it  by post if it was home.I would be interested if this is what they mean, rather than what i am thinking :-\

Australia / My transcripts convicts from england to .B.Bay
« on: Sunday 22 November 09 20:48 GMT (UK)  »
I came across these while looking for something I lost, and didn’t find, when I found notices (U.K Newspapers) of convicts with names, the prisons in England they were being taken from and where they were being transported to I was fascinated. I thought I would find more and it might be of some interest to someone I never found any, News reports like these are very few and all are Botany Bay. I have also spent time looking through the Australian papers (my first visit to the oz board) doing more reading up on convicts which I have found both fascinating and appalling on both sides of the world. I don’t have any connections to Oz at all by the way

Ipswich Journal sat/April 5/1800
Tuesday (on) 90 convicts were put on board a lighter, at Blackfriers Bridge, on their way to Botany Bay. Among them was the notorious Parmer a receiver of stolen goods. He is supposed to be worth 90 COD, which he transferred over to his wife, previouse to his conviction.

Ipswich Journal sat/9/may/1801 Re: Court & convictions

Sunday night last the ten following convicts were conveyed from Bury Goal, on their route to Portsmouth, in order to be transported to Botany Bay pursuant to their several sentences

Ipswich Journal sat/sep/25th/1802                                             (no names given but though I would add it as matter of interest)
The GLATTON has 170 female convicts for Botany Bay, 27 are not twenty years of age.

Ipswich Journal sat/dec/31/1803.
Tuesday morning, Anthony Rowson & William Tucker, (the 2 convicts that escaped from N.S.W.and concealed themselves on board the Atlas, Capt. Musgrave. The Lighter Side / Re:this completed Look up request board
« on: Friday 30 October 09 22:28 GMT (UK)  »
I have always known we had a compleated census request board,Where, when we add Compleated to our topics. It gets moved to the completed board. The same goes for this one.My puzzle is why are members asking for lookups on the completed board instead of the Cheshire look up request board I am just curious as to why we have 2. I have never had a need to look at the  compleated request board so i have only just noticed that.I didn't know members could ask for a request on the compleated board ??? I don't think many members would look on the compleated board to see if they could help anyone.Because they have all been helped ;D
