Berkshire / Mary Packeridge
« on: Tuesday 25 July 17 11:23 BST (UK)  »
Seeking additional clues:

Mary Packeridge m. 12 Jan 1762 John Pococke Compton, Berkshire

I was wondering if anyone has access to the marriage register at that church, to see if it gave any more clues as to the parishes of each person.

I have not found the marriage of a John Pococke (most likely a joiner of Hungerford) to a Mary .......
I suggest they had the eldest surviving child  being John (b. 1769 in London - d. 1804 Frome); then the next three Elizabeth (1772 Hungerford-1797 Frome); Jemina (1772 Hungerford-1854 Froxfield); and George (1774 Hungerford-1843 Bristol). Three, if not all four children were school teachers, and the two males, a little preaching as well.

We have much information on the four children; however, we are not convinced with our research on the father, therefore, seeking more evidence.

The State Library of Victoria contained a London Curriers' record:

Apprentice Henry Banks (East Ham) handover to William Loat, currier of East Smithfield in 1800.

Limerick / Ahern of Bruff, Limerick
« on: Tuesday 18 October 16 05:35 BST (UK)  »
Help required for birth/baptism of Maurice Ahern in Bruff, Limerick c1819 as per army records.

We are researching a Maurice or Martin Ahern, who enrolled in  2nd. European Regt (Bombay) in 1839, who says that he was born in Bruff, Limerick.

We also found that he may have re joined militia (20th. Regiment) in 1842, age given as 23 and pensioned off the same year.

We believe that he was a guard on convict ship Wm Jardine  to Hobart as Chelsea Pensioner in 1850.

Any help much appreciated.

Wexford / Eleanor Jane Cavanagh of Gorey
« on: Tuesday 21 June 16 05:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Just located the name of Eleanor Jane Cavanagh of Gorey Wexford named as a daughter of Elizabeth McMilliam of Cambrian Hill, near Ballarat in Victoria, Australia - 1891 Letters of Administration.

My guess: Eleanor is the daughter of William Lee and Elizabeth Earl, and she had a sister Elizabeth Lee b. 1844 Gorey, Wexford.

William and his wife Elizabeth Lee (nee Earl) left for Victoria 1840 to 1852 with one daughter Elizabeth Lee. William Lee has died in Cambrian Hill/Durham Lead area (no evidence) and his widow Elizabeth Lee, nee Earl as married William Currel McMillian in 1855 Victoria.

Can some one help in identifying:
1. marriage of a William Lee to Elizabeth Earl  in Gorey c1840
2. birth of Eleanor Jane Lee c1840 Gorey and possible marriage to a Cavanagh in Gorey
3. birth of Elizabeth Lee (the Younger) 1844 in Gorey
Regards

Hertfordshire Lookup Requests / William Henry Smith of Hertford
« on: Monday 18 April 16 11:04 BST (UK)  »
Looking for any possible clues ......

A young man called William Smith (20), along with his friend William Aylott/Aylett (21), committed highway robbery and both were sentenced at the Hertford Assizes, on 1 Mar 1842,  to 15 years, in the holiday resort of Hobart Town. The offence was against Mr. Edwards of Puckeridge [Hertfordshire], who was robbed of his gold watch.

When William Henry Smith married in 1848, he named his parents as Benjamin Smith, a carpenter, and Mary of Hertford.

Ironically, William Smith died in 1882, as the owner of the Robin Hood Hotel, in Peel Street, Ballarat, it was recorded stated that he was born in Hertford.

Can any body help to further identify his parents or any other siblings, who may have been born to carpenter Benjamin and Mary Smith of Hertford?

Mary, his wife [maybe second wife] died 1648 [Will] - she named two of her children: Ric and Marie Smith, as well as Katherine Shatswell; Anne Mansell, Elizabeth Brix/cson -  unclear as these children may be Alexander's from first marriage. Names of Wingrave/Wingrane and William Coles also connected.
