Armed Forces / Royal Army Pay Corps WW1 Puzzle
« on: Sunday 09 December 12 15:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with a puzzle. I'm trying to identify a family photo taken at about the end of WW1, I think it might show a family fellow who was a Corporal working at the Ministry in the Royal Army Pay Corps. However he is wearing civilian clothes with his stripes and I'm wondering if he might not have worn his uniform when at the ministry when working in finance... or might there be other reasons? I'd be greatful for any help.

Thanks for reading,

Dan

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone might be able to date a picture for me? We've not been able to identify this person but noted he has Corporal stripes, I have just found a family member who served as a Corporal with the Royal Army Pay Corps at the Ministry during the First World War and wondered if this might be him? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

United States of America / Dorothy Gray Marriage
« on: Tuesday 23 October 12 21:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to American records and am wondering if anyone might help me. I'm trying to find some information about my gran's cousin Dorothy Gray. Dorothy was born on the 9th Feb 1923 in Oakland, Alameda, the daughter of William Ernest Gray (known as Ernest) and Gertrude Gray. Dorothy married someone surnamed Hollerman- his first name might have been Gene, as far as I know they had no children and Dorothy died in Sonoma California on the 10th April 1992. I'm hoping someone might be able to trace who her husband was or if there is anything else I might be able to find out about her.

Many thanks for reading, best regards,

Dan

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Colour please if possible

Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone might be able to add colour to this photo of my grandparents. It's for an 'In Memory of' website we're doing and it would be nice to have a colour photo amongst all the black and white if anyone can help.

If it helps my Grandad's hair was jet black, my grandma's brown and my grandma's coat was blue.

Many thanks for anyone kind enough to attempt this for us.

Best regards,

Dan

The Common Room / Chapels of ease
« on: Thursday 09 August 12 08:58 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone would be able to answer this question. I am researching my family and notice they lived far from the parish church and would have used the nearby chapel of ease in general. Would they have still had to visit the main parish church for baptisms, marriages and burials or would they have done those in the chapel of ease too? The parish records are only for the main parish church.

Australia / Help finding two convicts transported to Tasmania
« on: Tuesday 05 June 12 12:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm trying to find out information as to what became of two brothers George and James Bradley. George was born in Grimesthorpe in West Yorkshire England in 1821, his brother born in the same in 1823. In January 1847 they robbed a poor fellow in Sheffield who ended up dying of his injuries. They were convicted of larceny on the 10th July 1847 at York assizes and sentenced to transportation to Tasmania for 15 years. I then completely lose them and I'm a bit rubbish when it comes to Australian records and was wondering if anyone might be able to help find what happened to them next?

Thanks for your time,

Dan Hall

United States of America / George Stabler Saint Cloud Minnesota
« on: Wednesday 18 April 12 19:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I'm trying to research George Stabler (born 1825 in Mickleton, Yorkshire, England) he married Jane Harle (born abt 1838) in Auckland England and worked on the Stockton to Darlington Railway before coming to Saint Cloud Minnesota in 1863, I'm trying to find out when he died but I'm not too good with American records, I have him on census up to 1885 and then his widow in1900 but nothing in between so I'm not sure what became of him. Can anyone help?

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Stablers in Barton Yorkshire
« on: Saturday 07 April 12 16:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for some help with the origins of the Stabler family in Barton. I have a James Stabler born illegitimately to Ann Stabler in Barnard Castle in 1825, he went to live with his grandfather in early life who was a mason called William Stabler who lived in Barton. This is where I am stuck, can't find how these fit in. Ann was born in Barton around 1803 and later married William Ruddock of Staindrop.

I have found a William Stabler in Barton who married Elizabeth Addison in 1794, they have two children James in 1797 and Charles in 1798 before Elizabeth died in 1800 and that is as far as I can get. Does anyone know these Stablers or can help with them?

Thanks for reading,

Dan
