Kent / Alfred Taylor born where in Kent ?
« on: Friday 13 July 18 08:53 BST (UK)  »
Alfred Thomas Taylor was born in Kent (East M???ing - doesn't look like Malling), according to the 1891 census. At this point his age was recorded as 25. He was lodging at Paddington Green Police Station (Civil Parish: Paddington; Sub registration district: St Mary Paddington; Piece: 4; Folio: 100; Page 32). I have found mis-transcribed as Allen Taylor. On 22nd August 1891 he married Ellen Brooker at St Mary's Church, Paddington Green. He gave his age as 26 and his father is John (deceased).

Can anyone help me with his place of birth ?

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Amelia disappears.
« on: Wednesday 13 June 18 18:52 BST (UK)  »
My great, great grandmother had a sister, Amelia Hatley. She appears in the 1861 census living in South Stoneham (the very first family in district 4c). The family members are her father, Lewis Hatley, mother Sarah Hatley, sister Mary Ann Hatley and Amelia, aged 38. Amelia was christened at South Stoneham on 20th July 1823. In 1862 her mother died (buried at West End on 20th April) and in 1864 her father died on 10th October and was buried on 16th October, also at West End. Both daughters were alive then according to the probate record. Mary Ann is running the Post Office at West End in 1871. Her married sister, Sophia Dunford, is with her. Mary Ann died on 24th December 1878 and was buried at West End on 31st December. In the record she is said to be "of the Rectory Freemantle in the Parish of Milbrook in the said County Spinster the Sister one of the Executors".

I cannot find her in 1881. I cannot find a marriage or a death.

Can anyone shed any light on my latest brick wall ?

Canada / VACHER/JONES London, Ontario
« on: Monday 04 June 18 19:15 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any Canadian members of the Vacher family. One branch of my family, namely Frederick James Vacher, born 1896, who married Violet Elsie Duke in 1923, emigrated to Canada in 1924. Frederick and Violet ended up in London, Ontario. They had four children that I know of - Rita Violet, living sister, Joan and Ronnie (who died aged five).

Last night I found Ritas's death notice part of which reads:

Jones, Rita Violet - Peacefully at University Hospital, London on Sunday October 18, 2015 in her 90th year. Wife of the late Maxwell Jones. .......... Predeceased by her son John and daughter Maxine. Cremation has taken place. A private graveside will be held. Expressions of sympathy and donations (London Health Sciences Foundation) would be appreciated and may be made through London Cremation Services (519) 672-0459 or online at www.londoncremation.com. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses on 10th floor Palliative Care at University Hospital.
(Published in the London Free Press, Ontario on 20th October 2015.)

I have tried the Cremation Service and they tried calling the phone number that they had in 2015 but the number was not in use.

Does anyone recognise any of those names, please ?

Norfolk / MINNS family Heigham area
« on: Wednesday 30 May 18 18:40 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have any MINNS connections from the Heigham area ? I have a Robert Marsh MINNS born 23rd December 1834 and baptised at Heigham son of David and Bridget MINNS (née SPALDING).

I believe that David was born in Heigham on 19th January 1799, the son of David and Hannah MINNS (née MARSH).

There the trail runs dry. I have found a baptism for a Hannah MIMMS, daughter of David and Hannah MIMMS (née MARSH), born 21st February 1792 at Heigham, which would suggest that David and Hannah were married before that date. Further births are recorded of Sarah MIMMS, 15th November 1793, and David MIMMS, 5th January 1797, with the same parents. Also a burial at Heigham of an infant David MINNS, son of and David and Hannah (née MARSH), 3rd January 1798.

If anyone can help me find David senior and/or Hannah's parents I would be most grateful. Suggestions most welcome.

I have a boat load of MINNS in my tree from Broome and wonder if there might be a connection .....

« on: Saturday 28 April 18 22:31 BST (UK)  »
Although Elijah and Betsey were living in Stetchworth when they died - Elijah in 1916 and Betsey in 1900 - they do not appear in the list of MIs for Stetchworth.

Does anyone know where they were buried ?

Thanks,

Cambridgeshire / Stetchworth churchyard
« on: Friday 27 April 18 15:58 BST (UK)  »
Hello !

Is anyone local to Stetchworth ? I have a transcript of the parish records up until 1950 but the book of burials from 1886 onwards was stolen from the church.

I know that Elijah JAGGARD and his wife Betsey were living there in 1891. Betsey died in 1900 and Elijah was still living there in 1901 and 1911. Elijah died in 1916.

I suspect that they are both buried in the churchyard and would like to know if I am right and if there is a gravestone. If so, can anyone tell me what it says ?

Thanks,

Heatha

Suffolk / Kedington and surrounding area - MAYES family - 1920-1924
« on: Sunday 19 November 17 13:55 GMT (UK)  »
I have Charles MAYES who married Hilda MAYES in the Risbridge registration district in 1920. Following their marriage there were four births in the Risbridge registration district, surname MAYES, mother's maiden name MAYES, from 1920 to 1924. I believe they lived in Kedington. Does anyone have access to the Kedington PRs to see in any baptisms could help me distinguish which of these four might be their children ?

Thank you  :)

Suffolk / ROOT family - Barnardiston and surrounding area
« on: Thursday 19 October 17 16:22 BST (UK)  »
My great, great, great grandmother, Harriet Root, was born in Barnardiston, circa 1815, baptised 1819. Her brother, John was born in Barnardiston and baptised in 1824. Both these children were illegitimate, mother Sarah Root, origin unknown.

John went on to marry Harriet Mayes/Mays, a local girl, in Barnardiston in 1852 and. as far as i am aware, they were childless.

Harriet married Edmund Elsden in Hundon in 1834 and I can trace her from there.

Does anyone have any idea where Sarah Root came from ?

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Heatha
