Suffolk / ELSDEN/ELSDON family - Stradishall, Hundon, Barnardiston and areas around
« on: Thursday 19 October 17 16:13 BST (UK)  »
My great, great great grandfather appears in Hundon in 1770 but was baptised in Stradishall. I believe his parents were Edmund Elsden and Susan Marrow. I have no idea where they originate from but understand that they were married in Stradishall in 1767.

Once census records start it is relatively easy to trace the family but can anyone throw any light on the eighteenth century Elsdens, please.

Many thanks,

Heatha

Kent Lookup Requests / Frances Ann Judd, baptised Bicknor 1846
« on: Thursday 11 May 17 21:40 BST (UK)  »
Does anybody have access to the parish records for Bicknor ? I would like to know the wording of the entry on 21st June 1846 for the baptism of Frances Ann Judd. I know that her mother was Mary but I would like to know if any mention on the child's status was mentioned. Mary's husband was transported but released in 1843. He was supposed to stay in Australia but might have worked his passage back to England. However, if the parish records state that she was 'base born' or illegitimate I could assume that Frances' father was not Mary's husband.

Thanks !

Kent Lookup Requests / Robert Judd born about 1800
« on: Monday 20 March 17 22:57 GMT (UK)  »
Could anybody help find Robert Judd's birth, born about 1800 ? He married Mary Morgan, believed to be born in Hollingbourne about 1805. Mary was still alive in 1851 but he had disappeared by that date.

I am aware that there was a convict of the same name who was sent to Australia in 1836.

Thank thanks,

Heatha

Canada Lookup Request / SARGENT birth in Saskatchewan please
« on: Thursday 30 December 10 11:44 GMT (UK)  »
My great uncle, Sidney Spencer Sargent, emigrated to Saskatchewan in 1911. He returned to England to fight in the Great War and married Lily Elizabeth Dunlop in 1917 in London. She followed him back to Canada at the end of the war, as far as I am aware. In the 1950s and 60s I can remember my mother receiving Christmas cards from Sidney and Lily with Canadian stamps on the envelopes. They had a son, George, born in about 1920. Is there any way I could trace his birth with so little information ?

Many thanks,

Heatha

Suffolk / STARLING Family - Lidgate Area
« on: Friday 27 March 09 19:21 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me with the STARLING family from Lidgate?

I have:

Samuel STARLING married Mary BROKER on 25th October 1790 in Lidgate.

They had 5 children:

Rhoda STARLING . She was born on 22nd April 1793 in Lidgate, Suffolk. Baptism on 22 May 1793 in Lidgate.
Phoebe STARLING . She was born on 19th March 1795 in Lidgate, Suffolk.  Baptism on 20 March 1795 in Lidgate.
Harriet STARLING . She was born on 26th August 1797 in Lidgate, Suffolk.  Baptism on 3 November 1797 in Lidgate.
Edward STARLING . He was born on 25th November 1800 in Lidgate, Suffolk.  Baptism on 26 November 1800 in Lidgate.
Jemima STARLING . She was born on 23rd December 1805 in Lidgate, Suffolk. Baptism on 26 December 1805 in Lidgate.

I believe that Samuel's parents may have been Samuel and Phebe STARLING . The following baptisms took place in Lidgate, naming Samuel and Phebe STARLING as parents:
John, on 4th September 1772,
Mary, on 8th October 1773.

I cannot find any earlier children.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks,

Heatha

Durham / Mohon and McKeag, Coxhoe/Cornforth/Quarrington
« on: Thursday 26 February 09 09:56 GMT (UK)  »
Although I have been researching for a while I am new to the Co. Durham area and would appreciate any advice about the above. I have traced them through the census records and feel pretty confident that I have the families in reasonable order. The McKeag family appeared in Quarrington between 1892 and 1895. The Mohon family were in the Coxhoe/Cornforth area from the early 1800s.

Now I need to try and find parish records relating to the families. Can anyone give me advice of where to look? I will maybe need to try and research Roman Catholic and C of E records as I am not sure if the families were C of E or RC and, apart from going to Durham Records Office, I don't know where to start.

When I looked at the Durham Records Office website I read that I can only request 3 items and need to book workspace well in advance. If this is correct, I need to be sure of what I need to look at well before I get there. Hence the plea for help!
