Please can you help find marriage or any info. on parents of my great grandfather: John Henry Gravenor Sparks.

Census 1871 - listed as John Sparks, 'Nurse Child' 8 mths - with the Evans family, 16 Church Path North, Portsea. Portsmouth. (Census 1881, 1891 - listed with Evans family as John Evans although he wasn't adopted by the Evans).

Birth Cert. - 27.06.1870. No fathers name given. Mother Harriet SPARKS, place - 16 Church Path North.

Marriage Cert. - 26.03.1894. m. Eliza Ellen Taplen.  Father's name: John Gravenor SPARKS (Butcher).  Witnesses: E J Taplen & G Taplen. (His address - Kingston Rd. Portsea.)

Family say he was bitter at only finding out he was a Sparks (not Evans) just before his marriage and refused to talk about his father etc.  He went on to become a Master Butcher himself in Portsmouth and called himself John Evans.
