United States of America / Mary Matilda Manley
« on: Friday 04 December 20 19:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, Mary's birth was registered in the uk jq 1899. She appears with her birth parents in 1911 census Henry & Mary. She married a William J Mutter in 1930. They appear to have had 2 children, both males 1926 & 1938. Mary & 2 children appear on the 1939 war register, no William. On this register her name Mutter is crossed out and written in is the name Lesniak. This is an indication she was at some time either widowed or divorced. She does not however seem to appear after 1939 in UK bmd's. I have attached a link and wonder if this is her in the USA. Any help welcome.

Thanks

John

England / William Hood 1809-25.10.1892

William was a successful business man owning at one time an Iron Foundry business in the Reading area that was later sold to the GWR. He was Mayor of Reading in 1877. Can anyone find any newspaper death announcements or funeral notices please in 1892, I cannot find a thing.

Thanks

England / off shoot of a recent post and challenge!!

The below is the original post regarding Elizabeth Lucy Heath born 1909 parents Ernest George Heath and Elizabeth Agnes.

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=838293.0

The op was asking for info re her birth etc which I believe has been found. My interest in this and possibly the op is what was Elizabeth Lucy's  father's background.

I believe him to be one Ernest John George Heath born mq 1864 Wandsworth 1d 459 with a mmn of "BUTEUX" taken from gro index. He records in 1891 rg12 235 160 41 and 1901 nrg 13 264 41 13 as to being a police constable and born in Battersea (covered by Wandsworh reg dist). He is easily found in 1911.

The original post details his marriage to Elizabeth in 1906 but he was seemingly a divorced man.
He previously married Alice Louisa Liston in 1889 London City. On that marriage cert he is a police constable aged 25 with a father John Heath occ Iron Merchant.

The divorce papers (online on ANC*) make interesting reading but throw up more questions than answers.
It records that Alice Louisa set up with one William Pratt and seemingly had a child with to him born 16th September 1900. Also noted is William Pratt died on the 4th October 1902 (probably William John Pratt ref dq 1902 Hackney aged 48)

Can anyone answer any of the following.

Apart from Ernest saying his father was John on marriage cert who are his parents?
Where is Ernest in 1871 & 1881 census?
What is the name of the child delivered to Alice Louisa on the 16.9.1900?
Where is Alice Louisa in 1901, with or without William and child and onwards?  edit--see next post

The Lighter Side / Time on your hands!

Weird dream last night. Whilst looking through the 1939 reg found my ancestor who died in 1836. Woke up this morning wondering who was the oldest person I could find on register with an evidenced birth and death after 1939. As I say do you have time on your hands. Credit for to the winner for all of those who take part.

London and Middlesex / George Higgs & Elizabeth Brock.
« on: Thursday 03 September 20 15:56 BST (UK)  »
George I believe to have been baptised 19.11.1798 St James Piccadilly, the son of George & Sarah.
He marries Elizabeth Brock 7.5.1818 St George Hanover Sq, they were both of that parish. They appear to have had that I can find 4 children.

1. Ann Brock Higgs bap 26.5.1822 St Philip & St Jacob,Glous. Parents George & Elizabeth, occupation "Barber". Nothing more is known of Ann after this date.

2. Joseph Higgs bap 15.3. 1825 St James Westminster, Piccadilly. Parents George & Elizabeth occupation "Hair Dresser". Again nothing known about Joseph after this date.

3 Edward Higgs Born 25.3.1829 , bap 20.9.1829 St James, Bristol. Parents George & Elizabeth occupation "Hair Dresser" When Edward married Adelaide Rowe Hull in 1849 his father is recorded as George Higgs "Hair Dresser"

4. "Boy (unnamed)  Higgs" born 28.8.1832. This record records Elizabeth wife of George Higgs -- "Hair Dresser"-abode St Mary Le Bone, Elizabeth's age noted as 32. Who was boy Higgs??

This is where it all goes a bit pear shaped for me. 1841 census HO107  741 30 15 shows Elizabeth 35 not born in county and Edward 12 not born in county. So George has probably/possibly died. There is a George Higgs aged 40 death in 1839 Strand reg dist on Freebmd/GRO. This fits!!, but there is also a burial record for a George Higgs aged 50 on 3.3.1839 St Mary Le Strand and that fits!!

I plan to order a pdf of the 1839 death but before doing so would welcome any comments/answers to some of the above. I also think there may have been a son George bap in 1818 in Camden but the image is really hard to read re occupation/abode.

Thanks

John

Technical Help / Sharing the Family Tree with my Sons
« on: Thursday 03 September 20 14:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I have a pretty comprehensive tree on Ancestry. My 4 sons do not want copies of all the material I have amassed over the years but would like to know their history. Is it possible to copy a tree on Ancestry and put on a USB stick. If not what other easy ways are there for doing such a thing.

Thanks

John
