Antrim / marriage of James McAuley and Fanny Rice approx. 1865
« on: Sunday 29 March 15 00:10 GMT (UK)  »
I have searched on Ulster Historical foundation and Ancestry but found nothing, or I'm not skilled at searching? I'm supposing they were married around 1865 because I think their eldest son was born in 1865. It appears that each of their children were born in the Shankhill Parish/District and baptised as Church of Ireland. Where else can I look for a marriage record? What would be the church for that parish? Thank you in advance.

The Common Room / Trying to find Patrick Smyth (Smith)
« on: Sunday 22 February 15 20:59 GMT (UK)  »
I need some advice on how to trace my ancestor. This is what I have so far: Born abt. 1844 in maybe County Louth or Down, Ireland or general area. Father's name is Thomas. Married Margaret Byrne 08 July 1867 in Dundalk, Louth. Margaret born on Drogheda, Louth. They have a daughter Mary Ann Smith born 25 May 1868 in Tullylish County Down and that refers to her father's profession as a Rope Maker. Wife and daughter appear on 1881 census in Kirkham, Lancashire as married woman lodger and daughter. Daughter's marriage license in 1884 refers to father as being a Rope Maker. A son Michael Smith is born in 1886 in Kirkham and refers to father as Rope Maker. Wife appears in 1891 census in Kirkham, Lancs as a widow.

Nowhere can I find any trace of this elusive ancestor of mine - Patrick Smyth. I have searched births in Ireland and censuses in England. Can't figure out why he's not with his wife on the 1881 census, perhaps he was working away? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

« on: Sunday 08 February 15 21:28 GMT (UK)  »
I'd be happy is someone could date this picture for me. Also, if you could judge the age of the woman, that would be great. The original picture was a wall hanging at an approximate size of 16" x 20". The photo was taken in either Ireland or Lancashire. Kind Regards.
