Kent / DUNK genealogy....how can so many get it wrong on Ancestry
« on: Wednesday 29 July 15 12:12 BST (UK)  »
I have a several times great grandmother Elizabeth Dunk born around .1730s and who married a John Nightingale in 1770 in Hawkhurst.Trying to find her birth I downloaded a will of Robert Dunk 1764,from Ancestry. From the clues in this will it was obvious that he was her father. In this will four children are mentioned in his first marriage and quite a few more in his second .One of these siblings in the first marriage Ann married a John Marchant and these were both witnesses at her wedding...proof enough.
There are more than 20 trees on Ancestry which with a little more research on Ancestry would come up with the right answers. All the trees give Roberts second marriage to a Margaret Heath or Margaret Heath Powell as taking place in Hawkhurst. With a few minutes research all these owners of trees would find a Clandestine marriage for Robert Dunk of Hawkhurst to a Maragaret Powell in London in 1848 in London.
It really amazes me how so many just take it for granted that all trees are right.
Perhaps any Dunk researchers who have put their tree on Ancestrymight like
to look at Ancestry and Roberts Will and marriage

Watching Family Finders last week Canadian War Brides were mentioned. This reminded my husband that his first cousin was one .We managed to find her passage to Canada with her son who was 1 year and 7 months.Using her married name we Googled her and found her on Find a Grave with information about a family website.Since then there has been contact with the child mentioned on the passenger list.
Quite amazing what the Internet reveals

The Common Room / Alfred Hart Mann b 1880 in Chelsea
« on: Thursday 02 July 15 11:38 BST (UK)  »
Alfred son of William and Mary has disappeared after 1911.He was born in Chelsea district and in 1901 is living in Fulham.By 1904 he is in Prittlewell Essex marrying Alice Francis Cox at All Saints Prittlewell in Oct 1904.in 1911 they are in Rochford. He might have served in the war but I can find no record.I haven't found any children or deaths for either.Alfred and Alice are common names and unless their middle name is used in a record it could be hard to find.Alice was born in 1878.
Any ideas in finding my elusive uncle greatly appreciated.

Canada / Kellar family in Ontario
« on: Saturday 27 June 15 17:51 BST (UK)  »
My husbands first cousin Evelyn May Kellar nee Ashcroft emigrated toOntario after her marriage in a Liverpool to a Canadian soldier. She did have a son John when she left England b in 1944.We have found her death on line but wonder if there are any Kellars who might like to get in touch privately with him. They would be his second cousins .He has often wondered about the life of his cousin in Canada.
A private message would be exciting as I know Roots Chat do not research living relatives.
Thanks

I use the iPad to send pictures etc from my camera roll. Some people, not all say they come through very small.I think it must be the set up on their computer and not the fault in the iPad.

The Lighter Side / BBC1 Family Finders
« on: Friday 12 June 15 17:59 BST (UK)  »
Excellent new programme which has been on every morning at 11.30.Shows the help given by Salvation Army in finding lost relatives .Unlike the Long Lost Family of ITV there are no presenters and in many cases we see people trying to do the work themselves.Interesting historical background history which comes into the many stories also shown.
Why is this programme on in the morning.....deserves evening time.
It's on all next week .

Kent / Robert Leighton ....husband of Jane Lansdell
« on: Saturday 30 May 15 18:03 BST (UK)  »
Robert is my several times ggrandfather and he married Jane Lansdell in 1801 in Goudhurst Kent. The Lansdell line has been easy to research but Ive reached a brick wall with Robert.According to the National Burial Index he died in 1804 in Goudhurst and from this I think he was born around 1770....maybe in Goudhurst.Jane also died leaving Avery young child Anne.
I would be grateful for any ideas on finding his birth.I wonder whether the name could have had a different spelling.
Thank you
