Kent / My Nightingles in Kent and how Google helped
« on: Sunday 01 March 15 14:18 GMT (UK)  »
I Have a large family of Nightingales in the Hawkhurst /Sandhurst area of Kent .I knew with help from Rootchatters that two of my gggrandfathers brothers went off to America before .1851.
Playing around with names on Google and having put in Henry Nightingale from Hawkhurst I was amazed to see an account of his sons life written in diary form.He fought at Gettysburg, was injured and was present at Lincolns address.Hows that for a little bit extraThere was even a picture of him and reference to his wife and children.

Northamptonshire / Missing birth of gggrandmother Elizabeth Gaudern in Northants
« on: Saturday 28 February 15 12:31 GMT (UK)  »
Quite excited to see Northants baptisms after 1813 on Ancestry. At last I would find Elizabeth Gauderns birth .On her marriage cert on 21.5.1849 in All Saints Northampton it states her father John was a bookmaker .She married Samuel Ringrose and on all censuses her birthplace is Northampton. Her birthdate works out to be around 1825.NOTHING on Ancestry......any ideas as to what I do now.
In one later census she is Elizabeth Ringrose visiting Hannah Hillier in Northampton.Hannah was a Gaudern and her aunt. There are lots of Gauderns in the county but I cannot be sure she's one of them.
Any ideas great fully received
Thank you

In the good old days on the old Family Search you could put in the names of parents and get all their children. Is there anyway of doing this on this newer site which I cannot get on with.

Warwickshire / Census for Luddington Warwickshire....cannot find
« on: Monday 02 February 15 13:48 GMT (UK)  »
I know there is a Luddington elsewhere but this very. Small village is in Warwickshire.Ive been looking on Ancestry for the 1841 census for this village.Ive gone into the 1841 ,put the county in and then on looking at the list of villages I cannot find it.
Am I missing something or is it recorded with another village.I know the population wasvery small but have Ancestry not recorded it.Unfortunately I haven't a name to look at .
Any help would be great fully received

The Common Room / Prison hulks on Google Books
« on: Sunday 11 January 15 13:08 GMT (UK)  »
My gg grandfather was on board the prison hulk York in 1842.Just out of interest I looked at Googe books and put in Prison Hulks first and then Pridon Hulk York. Both came up with very informative descriptions of life on board and in some cases pictures.
Anyone with an ancestor who found themselves on a prison Hulk may find it interesting to look at .My gggrandfather was released after .3 years but he would have experienced the awful conditions and treatment.
