 Sarah Ellen Brown 20 spinster,both sign with a x
Grooms father James Bullock weaver (deseased)

Cornwall / PAUL surname origins of?
« on: Thursday 06 January 11 14:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there all!
I have a couple of questions on the Paul family from the Paul,Newlyn and Mousehole and surrounding areas and im hoping someone may be able to help
Firstly let me explain my connections to the Paul family
My GGG Grandparents were married in Newlyn st Peters in 1866
William McDonald mariner
Mary Ann Paul spinster
Grooms Father John McDonald labourer
Brides father John Paul labourer
witness Jabez Shepherd
Over the xmas holiday me Dad showed me Mary Ann Paul,s lineage back to 1633 using parish records he looked up whilst in Cornwall on holiday a few years back it seems her family went from using the surname Powle,Pawl and finnally Paul over the years, the record from 1633  says Edvardo(s) Paul son of Nathanelis and Maria ? Im just wondering as the name Edvardos is Spanish that maybe the family originally came from Spain and im curious to find out if anyone else has done any research that may suggest this? Also (another question!) My father also came across a family of Paul,s living on the Channel islands in 1881 discribed as travellers would this be the same family as Mary Anns i wonder? Any help or info or indeed suggestions would be really appreciated
   many thanks Dunc

Durham / any ideas why this would happen?
« on: Sunday 02 January 11 14:28 GMT (UK)  »
Happy New Year to you all
I have posted before asking for help traceing my gg Grandparents since then i receaved a marriage and birth cert over the xmas period and now im even more confused!
Im hoping someone may be able to explain the findings on the certs please
Firstly ther marriage cert
18th march 1882 Eighteen banks Durham
David Staff 22 bachelor ,miner
Margaret Ann Bowers 22 spinster
Grooms father John Staff miner
Bride is stated as illigitimate
1899 Durham Birth certificate of my Great Grandfather Harry
Harry Staff
father David Staff,miner
mother Margaret Ann Staff ,formerly Moore.
I cant understand why she married useing the surname Bowers but on the birth cert of her son it says she was formerly surname Moore i know it says spinster on marriage cert so she wasnt married before,my Dad seems to think maybe her mother was a Bowers and Father a Moore or vice versa it doesnt look like ill ever be able to trace her family as im not sure of her real surname does any one know why this would happen? Any help really appreciated
All the best
Dunc

If James was about 20 in 1810 its possible he may even be on 1861 census, any help would be really appreciated, many thanks

« on: Monday 27 September 10 15:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi all i found the following details whilst looking thru some old info i had on my Nans family just wondering if anyone had come across these surnames Brown,Bowers,Bullock and Staff all living in Durham
Firstly i have my Nans grt grandparents on 1881 census at no 5 Albert street Heworth Durham
Thomas Brown 40 b Ireland labourer
Elizabeth Brown(formerly Ridley or Ripley?) wife 41 b Runcorn Cheshire
Sarah Ellen Brown daughter 11 born Chorley Lancashire
Neal Mc Gough lodger labourer 43 b Ireland
Patrick Raynar lodger labourer 56 b Ireland
Owen Hackett lodger labourer 26 b Ireland
John Hackett lodger labourer 28 b Ireland
John Lally lodger labourer 80 b Ireland
Sarah Ellen Brown went onto marry Josiah Bullock in Durham he was a carpet weaver originally from Suffolk i beleave
Another marriage i have is for David Staff a coal miner to Margaret Ann Bowers  around 1882 Davids family also originally from Suffolk
As i say i know nothing of this side of the family so if any of them may ring any bells with anyone or you may be able to provide some census details id really appreciate it,
many thanks
Duncan
