Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Richardson or Buchardson
« on: Tuesday 03 July 12 13:38 BST (UK)  »
After a little help in deciphering the below from a marriage certificate of George Elder and what I thought was Elizabeth Richardson in Jan 1849 in Earsdon, Northumberland.

Other than this marriage I am unable to find anything about Elizabeth Richardson. The certificate now has me doubting whether this is Richardson at all. I attach 2 versions from same certificate. Father is John "Richardson".

I am also unsure of the age - does this say "of age" for both - what does this mean??

Many thanks in advance.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Informant's residence
« on: Thursday 21 June 12 10:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi

After a bit of help deciphering the attached Birth Certificate.

2 Areas:

1) I think I am comfortable with in the Date and Place of Birth - "Twenty Ninth November 1848 ?Cowpen, Earsdon?"

2) The second part is the Signature, Description & Residence of the Informant - "by Elizabeth Richardson......................" - could it be "something of mother" - but the last 2 words have stumped me - maybe "colliery"??

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Marcus

Northumberland Lookup Requests / George Elder
« on: Wednesday 20 June 12 11:02 BST (UK)  »
I've hit a roadblock.....

I am searching for details of a George Elder- a 3x Great Grandfather.

Details I have thus far are as follows:

Married to Elizabeth b. Hartley in approx 1827/8 and lived well into her 80's as still appears in the 1911 census.
(from prior research I have her down as Richardson, but have no idea where I got this from as was quite a long time ago and cannot find anything to suggest this is true, so discount).

They had 3 children:
Mary Ann Elder b.1848  m. 28 July 1866 to George Mark Taylor @ Christ Church, Tynemouth (these are my GG Grandparents) - this is where I have found that George Elder is the father.
Elizabeth Elder b. 1851
Sarah A Elder b. 1854

In the 1851 Census I have Elisabeth (Elizabeth Elder) as the head of the household listed as married with 2 of the 3 above mentioned children. She is also listed as (maybe) a Mariners Wife (which may explain lack of George in this census).

In the 1861 Census, Elizabeth is listed with all 3 above children, but listed as a widow. So assume that George Elder has died between these 2 dates.

If anyone has any information or they could point me in the right direction in regards birth, marriage or death of George it would be very much appreciated. May be easier than prior "Taylor" requests with not quite as common surname!

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Mark Taylor - Earsdon
« on: Monday 18 June 12 15:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm new to this so hope I am going about this the right way. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I am looking for a Parish Record or any details of parentage of Mark Taylor born abt 1814 in Earsdon.

Mark is my 3x Great Grandfather and unfortunately died at sea (he was a Master Mariner) in Nov 1847, having been washed overboard from the Prince Albert in the Bay of Biscay.

There is a Mark Taylor born in Dinnington at this time, but does not appear to be my Mark Taylor.

The details I have are as follows:
- Mark Taylor (aged 20 at marriage hence approx birth date) married Mary Catcheside (daughter of John Catcheside & Ann Gledstone) in 1834.
- 5 Children - Ann Gledstone Taylor (b 1837), John Taylor (b 1840), George Mark Taylor (b 1841), Mary Jane Taylor (b 1844), Richard Catcheside Taylor (b 1848)

Many thanks in advance.
