Durham / Possible step son
« on: Sunday 05 December 21 12:55 GMT (UK)  »
I have a William Leaton born sometime between about 1700 - 1707

He lived as the son of Anthony Leaton who married Frances Story in Gateshead 11.02.1704
William is not listed as “Leaton in the early records, but in his own will refers to all his
brothers and sisters and rest of the Leatons as “Half Blood”
I have tried looking for his birth under “Leaton” and “Story” in Gateshead and Whickham areas,
Where he lived from about 1704.
I guess his mother Frances was either born “Story” or a married name!!!!
Anthony could have adopted him when he married Frances!!!!!
Has anyone any suggestions as to where I go next with this search.
Any help would be appreciated.

Durham / Occupation
« on: Thursday 25 November 21 19:38 GMT (UK)  »
I have Anthony Leaton born 1753 at Fellside
He was my 5th great grandad and my family members said he was working
on the estate of the Bowes family, at Gibside as possibly an estate and house steward.
I am trying to find out if this is correct.
I now find That his father John and Grandfather Anthony worked at the Bowes “Mines”
in the position of chief viewer.
So it could follow that Anthony Jnr may have had help getting his job with the same
estate through his father and or grandfather.
Any information you could help me with would be appreciated.

Listed as a Gentleman and professor on some documents.
His wife and himself ran a number of private schools in Chester 1850s onward.
His daughters Isabella and Florence also ran schools locally.
He died London 1886 while living with his son.

Northumberland / Persons businesses 1700s 1800s
« on: Wednesday 17 November 21 08:27 GMT (UK)  »
1.
I am trying to get the information on some of my blenkinsopp & Leaton Family.
Occupations, businesses, leisure interests etc.
I have a George Blenkinsopp in about mid 1700s the following entry in the Newcastle book
Just says Mason. Also no indication of location of the business.
What I don’t understand is, what his business was!
It Just says “Mason” but what would that mean.
(Stone mason, free mason etc) in Whiteheads 1778 it is showing the
Same type of entry, just Mason.
2.
I would also be interested to know if any of the family were members of the “Freemasons”
In the areas of Newcastle upon Tyne. Whickham, fellside, Hamsterley, and or a lot of Co.durham & Northumberland etc
How can I find out this information??
Any help with by searches would be appreciated

His occupation was the same as his father, (a farmer)

London and Middlesex / Grave photos
« on: Monday 01 March 21 15:05 GMT (UK)  »
I have recently found where my grandad Herbert blenkinsopp Leaton, was buried, 13th March 1919,
alongside his parents. Jane and William.
Herbert died as a result of the Spanish flu whilst transporting foreign Troops back to British colonies after WW1, he was an engineer on a hospital ship which was then seconded to return these men to their homes. Many of his fellow crew members also died as a result of the Flu.
I wondered if anyone would be able to locate and take a photo of the grave for me.
I am disabled and also the covid issue is stopping me travelling to London.
The information is as follows:-
Nunhead cemetery Southwark, London
Square 113/30673
