Surrey / Deadford, Surrey - Where?
« on: Saturday 17 November 12 14:19 GMT (UK)  »
I'm following the activities of Edward Blake (1763-1857), who alledgedly came from Deadford, Surrey. I've also seen a reference to Deadford, Kent, but can find no information that shows they actually exist(ed).

If you Google Deadford one of the links given is to Arnold Smith and descendents' which gives the story.

Can anyone give me any info on this please?

Dorset Lookup Requests / Moses Gillingham in 1851
« on: Tuesday 25 September 12 15:29 BST (UK)  »
According to Family Search.org, Moses Gillingham (believed born 1778, Swanage) married Lucy Toop (Believed born 1777, Swanage) at swanage in 1798. Searching their 1851 census listing I find a Moses Gillingham and a Lucy Gillingham, both from Swanage, both aged 73 but Family Search doesn't display the residence.

Can anyone please search the 1851 census and confirm, or otherwise, that these are man & wife, where they live and any other residents?  I'm hoping they've left Dorset.

Midlothian / St Mirron? *COMPLETED*
« on: Wednesday 08 August 12 16:11 BST (UK)  »
The following is a transcription from the Register of Baptisms, 9th August 1811 for St. Cuthberts, Edinburgh

'David McDonald Taylor St Mirron and Elizabeth Johnstone his spouse had a son born 6th July last named Alexander McDonald.'

All the other entries on the page follow the same format and St Mirron appears to be a place.

My question is - is this Davids birthplace and if so does anyone know where it is please? I've tried Googling it and all I get is St Mirren, the football club in Paisley.

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Edwin Varney Horley 1871 look up
« on: Thursday 15 March 12 20:57 GMT (UK)  »
In 1881 Edwin Varney aged 16 was recorded as the son of William and Matilda Varney living in Horley, Oxon. In the transcripts of Horley PRs he appears to be the son of Henry and Dinah Varney. William had a sister Dinah who married a Henry Varney so he is probably a nephew.

Can anyone find him in 1871 please to see if this clarifies the situation.

Thanks in anticipation.

Staffordshire completed Look up Requests / Elizabeth Reeves 1861 Look up please
« on: Tuesday 11 January 11 21:45 GMT (UK)  »
In 1871 Elizabeth Freakley (born Trent Vale c 1820) is a widow living at 16 Apple Grove, Tranmere with Daughters Ann Reeves (15) and Mary Reeves (13), both born in the Stoke on Trent Area. I believe her to be the Elizabeth Reeves who married James Freakley in 1862 at W. Derby and that she was a widow at that time. Can anyone find her in 1861 please either with her husband or again as a widow with the two girls?

Thanks in anticipation,  Mac

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / William Smith 1891,1901 Look Up
« on: Sunday 08 August 10 19:20 BST (UK)  »
William Smith is living with his married sister Elizabeth in the 1911 census. This gives his age 26 and birthplace Cotes Heath, Staffs., and makes his birth between April 1884 and April 1885. There are two William Smith births registered in Stone in this period (both William Thomas).
He is a previously unknown member of the family. His parents are William and Mary (nee Freakley) Smith.

Can anyone find him in 1891 or 1901 please. I have never found the family in 1891 and he is not with his parents in 1901.

Thanks in anticipation, Mac
