The Lighter Side / "Where was my 2 x G Grandmother a Servant?".
« on: Wednesday 13 March 24 14:31 GMT (UK)  »
My 2 x G Grandmother was Ann Drinkwater b 1839 in Bowdon Altrincham . I would like to trace her background a bit if possible . All I know from the 1861 census in Bowdon is that at aged 21 she was a Servant . "But at what Address?". I am not subscribed to Ancestry at present and cannot access any deeper info on this . The census says Ann is working for a Mr Richard Stead and his Sister Mary .

Please could anyone find the address she worked at ?. Than I could google it and see if it was a grand house or not . Thank you .

The Common Room / Social history of Cornish fishermen migrating to the US in 1900
« on: Friday 23 February 24 13:34 GMT (UK)  »
My Cornish ancestors emigrated to Pennsylvania early 1900s . I probably think it was due to the lack of opportunities in fishing at the time . Still it was a big move! . "Has anyone any social history articles etc on emigration from Cornwall at this time?". I would be keen to learn more . Thanks .

My distant Cousin(miner) was from Newlyn Cornwall and he emigrated to Daylesford Victoria Australia in the 1860s . Apparently he was a gold miner (unprofessional) at the time of gold rush . So "Does anyone else have similar stories?". I expect it was hard work and a hard place to live at the time .
