Lanarkshire / McNab orphans, where did they go ?
« on: Monday 19 February 07 10:24 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace 2 orphans who seem to have disappeared off the face of the earth after 1902.

Jeannie McNab and Duncan McNab.

They were the children of my Great Aunt Jane McKelvie who married Duncan McNab on 20 April 1894, 20 Maitland St, Glasgow.
Jeannie Sutherland McNab born 7 Jan 1895, Govan, Glasgow
Duncan McNab born 20 May 1896, Govan, Glasgow

Jane McNab, nee McKelvie died 2 Sept 1898 (28 years old) at Auchterarder, Perthshire.
Cause of death was Phthisis Ailments, 12 months
Informant - Jane McKelvie, mother

Duncan McNab died 6 Oct 1899 (30 years old) at Belvidere Hospital, but was buried at Auchterarder.

After their parents deaths Jeannie and Duncan lived with their Grandmother Jane McKelvie, nee Sutherland at 20 Maitland St, Glasgow (Milton District/ Cowcaddens).

A Poor Law Application made on the 5 Feb 1902, by their gran on their behalf, shows that the children were applying for outdoor relief because they was no money left.
It then notes that a letter was written to SMILLIE & BLYTH, 65 Bath St, asking the amount of money left to the children.
24 Feb 1902 - SMILLIE & BLYTH wrote - the deceased was an engineer and died 6th Oct 1899 and the amount left by him was £89-7-8 after deduction of debts due and general charges there was a balance of $42-10-/ able to Mrs McKelvie for the benefit of the children, this sum we have paid her so that there is no fourth sum to be received by her.

Does anyone have any idea how i can find out whether this was a life insurance policy or something of the sort.

Jane Sutherland McKelvie died 13 Nov 1917 (80 years old) at Muse Lane, Glasgow
Cause - Congestion of lungs
Informant - James McKelvie, son.

Can anyone help or connect to this family ?

Argyllshire / Ferguson's from Islay
« on: Saturday 27 January 07 12:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

My 4xGreat Grandparents Donald Ferguson and Catherine McIntyre married on 8 Dec 1835.
They went on to have 9 children that i am aware of.

The problem i am having just now is finding a record of Donald Ferguson's Birth/Baptism.

Donald Ferguson died 30 July 1858, 46 years, cause Inflammation (12 weeks)
Father - John Ferguson
mother - Jean Kilpatrick
Informant - Catherine Ferguson, Wife.

According to this information Donald was born 1811/12.

A search on the IGI gives one child for John Ferguson and Jene Kilpatrick
 - Ephric Ferguson (female)  chnd. 22 Feb 1810, Killarrow, Argyll

However, Ted Larson's wonderful site gives 2 children
 - Ferguson,John,Kilpatrick,Jene,Kilinaline,Ephric,22,Feb,1810
 - Ferguson,John,Kilpatrick,Jene,Kilinaline,Finlay,14,Mar,1815

BUT there is directly below these 2 children the following
- Ferguson,John,Paterson,Jene,Kilinaline,Donald,31,May,1808
- Ferguson,John,Paterson,Jene,Kilinaline,Flora,23,Apr,1812

Firstly, Is Kilinaline the name of a Farm ?

Secondly, taking into account the first names, place names and dates could these 2 Jene's be the same person ?

I would be very grateful for any assistance at all.
Debbie

Argyllshire / Sinclair family from Kilninver and Kilmelford Parish
« on: Saturday 13 January 07 17:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I am helping my cousin with her family tree, we have traced the Sinclair line from 1796- 1860 in Kilninver and Kilmelford Parish.

We have George Sinclair married Hellen McNicol on 28 April 1796 (M115242)
children include (C115242)

Isabella born 20 Sept 1797
Mary born About 28 Dec 1798
John born 15 Jan 1799
James born 10 Feb 1803
Archibald born 10 Jan 1811
Ann born 25 Oct 1812

All these births were extracted from batch number C115242 therefore they should be reliable but it is not possible to have 1 child born in Dec and another born the following Jan.

Also, there is quite a big gap between James and Archibald.

Does anyone on the list know anything about this Parish ?

Were the parish records recorded properly/accurately or is there gaps/errors in the records ?

Also, how big was this Parish as there is a lot of Sinclair's in the Parish records, is it possible they could all be related ?

Thankyou in advance for any suggestions

Debbie
